Default Trans Slip yoke busted

Well even though I had just pulled my DS to check the trans slip yoke and all looked well, I blew it up last night first pass at the track.
Can anyone suggest a new one for me? Maybe some links would be great.

absolutely, call mark williams. I bought driveshaft complete from him because my strange one didn't fit right. His yokes are top notch. I think it was like $220 or so for the yoke. Hopefully that will take care of the launching problems you were having also.

Ya the yoke was always a really tight fit but as far as I could tell wasnt twisted. Doesnt matter now since it literally blew up. Not the u-joints either it was the shaft that exploded. Im just happy it didnt take out the tail housing or out put shaft on the trans.

Mark Williams it is. Dont mind spending the cash if the product is worth it. Seems that a 27spline yoke should work on my T56 and on my Th350.
This look right to you guys?

This is a nice piece and is a steal at this price:

Might even be the same one as Denny's, they sure look the same?

I had the strange 1667 yoke prior to getting the MW piece. That is a great price for it. I am sure it is a quality piece. But on my car for some reason it didn't fit right. It was loose on the output shaft, kinda like the splines were cut the wrong depth. It was fine under acceleration but made alot of noise when coasting. With the MW unit I didn't have that problem. So I'm not 100% sure what the problem was. But might be worth a try for that price.

wow! that looks like you were very lucky not to damage the trans at all. You'll be happy with the MW piece.

AC,

Are you sure that the drive shaft is not to long or to short and under a hard launch it either jammed the yoke up in the tail housing or if the car raises up in the rear it tried to pull the yoke out of the tail housing and got it in a bind?

Check the transmission tail housing real good. I hope when you get the new yoke pressed on and install there are no problems. Mine moves easily on the tail shaft.

Good luck!

No joke. When the water box girl picked up some chunks of the ground I thought the trans was toast. I was very suprised to see NO other damage when I got under the car. Now I just need that yoke to make sure the output shaft didnt twist. Doesnt look like it did and the busted yoke came off about the same as it always did.

Thanks. The DS is the exact same length as my old strange DS that I never had a prob with. That yoke always slid on and off easy. The PST was always a super tight fit. At first I thought the output was twisted when I got the PST but the stock yoke and strange yoke would go on easy so that eliminated the output being tweeked.

not sure what rearend you have, but I have a S60 with T56 and strange sent me a driveshaft that was quite a bit shorter than the one that MW spec'd out for me. So don't rule that out as a potential problem. You would think that strange would know what the correct length should be, but I, for one, am not convinced. But seeing as though you have been using it for a while, if there are no odd noises, it is probably right. I believe my MW shaft had about 1/2" of play to get the u-joint into the pinion. That was with it fully inserted into the trans, with the weight of the car on the tires. If that is close to what you have, I'd say you are good. Much more or less could cause a problem.

You should check the yoke on the output before you press the u-joint on. I'm sure it the output is f-d up you would prolly upgrade to a 30spline and need a different yoke also. Best of luck.

Thanks. If the output is messed up my th350 is going in early, and Ill def make sure the yoke fits b4 putting it on the DS.

I also have a S60 and the strange DS worked great. Only changed to lighten it up and handle more power. The PST is the same overall length as seen in the pic.

So was that the pst yoke that busted? If so I have seen a number of them twisting and now exploding I might just order the MW just to prevent such a failure on my shaft.
