Default battery question

a few weeks ago at the track, i broke the top of my coolant overflow jug that holds the front of the battery down.

i know i can just replace it with the factory piece but there has to be something out there to hold the battery better than that thin plastic piece.

i dont want to just break the new piece on my next hard launch. any insight would be greatly appreciated.

you could fab up your own bracket or buy a battery tray already made(i think aerospace has some stuff) and just mount it in the car.

.

I don't know about the stock stuff, but a race type set up is the way to go.
Look at some race cars next time at the track and there are a million excellent ideas out there.
Or ask for photo's and you'll get the idea, plastic is definitely not strong enough for the weight.

Someone used to make a bracket, that would attach at the bottom behind the battery, and attach at the top of the radiator support where the headlight's attach. I can't remember who made them but I think it would be pretty easy to make one out of a piece of 1/8 or 3/16 steel... that way you could actually have a "strap" that goes over the whole battery, holding it down, and stopping it from trying to rock backwards on you...

That's the kind of bracket I'm looking for. Something to keep it from grounding on the sc on a hard launch.

Could you post a pic of how it bolts? I'm interested but can't tell how it straps from the picture

I will take a picture when I get home of how it holds the battery down.

Thanks. It threw me off because it says it replaces the battery tray. With that being part of the overflow jug, I don't see how that works

That's the style I was talking about... I've seen them on a few cars and apparently it solves the problem 100%. I put mine in the trunk before it ever gave me a problem... or I'd probably have had to do that a long time ago as well.

I had to get it after my stock hold down took a dump on me and wasn't holding the battery in at all.

Why order if you can just make one?

I made one...

Very easy to make. I bought about 4 ft of aluminum soft metal from LOWES and contoured the bends from the bottom bolt to the battery all the way up to the headlight bracket holder. (Or you can just measure) I cut the excess of course and painted it gloss black to make it more "stockish" appeal. Drill the appropriate holes to the bolts and install it.

I also put a couple of foams under the piece of metal to snug the battery better.

I'd like to. And I'm sure it would save me a couple bucks, but I'm a perfectionist when it comes to my car. $18 and knowing that I don't have the opportunity to make some goofy looking piece on my car is worth it to me. I'd pick mine apart if I did that.

Yours does look really good though. It's just not something I've done.

Thanks to your post. I fabbed up my own bracket today, it blows that stock plastic junk out the water. You couldn't move my battery if you tried. I used some scrap aluminum I had laying around the house. I didn't paint mine, I was scared it would flake off.
