Default Mickey Thompson 3055s

Hey fellas,

I just bought a pair of MT 3055s 28"x10.5"x15" slicks. I want to know if they absolutely need to have a tube in them? I know that if I run a tube I will have to screw the tires to the wheel for safety reasons so the valve stem don't bust off. I just bought brand new Weld RTS 15" so I am hoping that these are not absolutely necessary right away. If I do need tubes I already know which ones to get, MT 9553's.

Thank you

I ran a set for 4 years without tubes. They would loose air after a week if I left them on them on the car. I'm gona run a tube in my new set

Cool thanks for the info.. I plan to get some close up videos of my launches to see what the tire is doing when I get home and to the track

Another note, what kind of burn out worked best for you and I will be using a LNC-002 2 step, what RPM did you launch at?

No tubes - 12psi - 3rd gear burnout - I leave at 5800-6000, still working out the bugs. My car is heavier than studderin's but it's been 1.52 - I figure 1.4's are just a few hundred rpm away.

i would recommend running tubes, makes the sidewalls a bit more robust.

my best was 1.43 but I got good shocks and part after racing on them for 4 years. The sidewalls are all beat and messed up. I stack the used set unmounted and they don;t even hold themselfs up, they sage in and fall over after a day haha.
If no tubes Id do the dish soap trick beofre you mount them. but I would get tubes, for the tires, and so they don't go down (simi) flat if the car sits for a few days. And it sucks at race events were your be in the lanes or waiting 4-6 hours. And have to deal with one tire loosing air more. And they will both loose .5-1psi in 4-8 hours. I would have to fill them more, and then set them in the lanes as late possible beofre getting the the line. And one tire getting warn in the sun, you have to adjust for that in a few hours with them leaking diffrent. My DR didnt leak at all. I would set them after a pass so the temp was the same, and not have to mess with them all weekend, thats way nicer.

2step between 6300 to 6600 with the smaller street stweeper cam and shiftlught at 6400. new cam have more power over 6K but havnt raced on good (my new set) of 3055S. BTW I was getting 1.50x and 1.48 2 times on 275 DR end of this year learning the car better. thats what it used to get on 3055s mostly 1.45-1.48s. I ran a little more air them most 15-16 psi in the 3055s I wanted them to spin a little only making 425/395 it would bog the car if it dead hooked. I did go down to 13.5 psi, I never noticed them move on the rim btw.

My suspension is DA AFCOs all around with the stock rear springs, MWC dbl adj PHB & LCA's both solid ends, MWC short tq arm, MWC drag bar weld-on version, MWC fab 9 with Wavetrac diff, Strange 35 spline axles, Yukon 4.30 gears.

The tires will only be on the car when I get to the track and taken off before I leave since I will be driving there. I remember some of your pics where you had towels over the tires to prevent heating up and expanding, good idea I'll remember to bring some.

I have heard about the dish soap trick too. I guess when it dries it makes like a sticky seal or something probably.

the towel dosn't do anything, the tire still gets hot, thats just the best thing I had. haha I need to look into that more, something that blocks the UV or light better. I think real race guys use a plastic

I've never run tubes on the 28 x 10.5 stiff sidewalls on my Nova, been 1.38 60 foot and the tire doesn't move on the rim. They can lose air as mentioned, but I usually change back to my radials or put the rear end on jackstands to keep the tires from flatspotting.

Cool man thanks. What is better to do with these while I'm not using them; leave them aired up or deflate them until next time?

I'd keep at least 5 lbs in them. Mickey Thompson says they can potentially shrink if you completely deflate them. Leaving them inflated won't hurt a thing.

Yea these are the stiff walls Sammy.. I'm going to try them without tubes first. If they don't work I will get tubes and put a single beadlock on the wheels because I don't like the idea of screwing tires.
