Wasn't going to post until it's in my hands, but I just bought an alcohol F3 set up.
Picking it up Sat. at the Expo here in Chicago.
All I got to say is I need help!!
Anyone that has built a blower combination or any suppliers, I have a zillion questions??
Injection system??
Ignition system??
Magneto??
Converter??
Gear??
Cell size needed??
Puke tank??
Blow off valves??
Fuel pump??
Cam??
How much boost??
Etc etc??
Anyone that has time to talk with me I'm so confused, and I would really appreciate it!!!
Every time I talk to someone I get a different opinion??
Also, I'm not looking for max effort.
I run T/S, quick 8 type stuff, and do not need 2500-3000 HP.
I would like to build a 1750 HP, low rpm combination that can hit the dial in consistently!!
6.80-.90 at 200 will qualify me at every event I plan to attend.
I don't care if I'm in the bottom half, I run a dial in class.
I have a complete motor, that's in being freshened now,
so that's good to go, it's all the changes & accessories I need opinions on.
557"
11-1
Brodix BB-2's
Big M, 9.8
Dart intake
Dry sump
Thanks guys, and "ALL" knowledge and opinions are welcome.

Steve Morris questions IMO to be totally honest.
I did look into something like this, and what I found:
Fuel tank size, plan on 5 gal at a min, you're going to burn alot of fuel in a run.
Puke tank, as big as you can go, can't really go too small on that.
Magneto would be the best way to keep the flame lit
Blow off valves 2 of the big procharger ones would do.
Boost for the level you want, no idea
If you are gonig to run fuel injection, you are going to need a BIG injector, moran probably has something that you can run. BS3 or fast would probably be the easiest options to go with.
Fuel pump waterman makes a pretty good one that will move the alcohol you need to move
Cam is 100% steve morris question no idea there
Converter you will likely want one of the 10 inch blown type ones to hold the power level.
Probably doesn't really help alot but when I looked into this, as I have looked into all possible options to run at the 8.0 level and dial it back to 8.50 for what I want to do, those were the general answers I was able to get, hopefully it gets you in the right direction.

Thanks guys.
I know Steve is a guru, but I'm buying everything used, so I wasn't sure how much he would help.
I don't expect him to waste his time when I already know I won't be buying much from him other then the cam??
I was hoping someone on here was semi-local to Chicago so I could make a deal on helping get this thing running??

You wouldn't happen to have a list of all your details you would share??
I would love to see your exact build sheet!!
Any info you could pass along would be appreciated.
Like I said, I still have a ton of decisions and parts to start gathering up.

What are you setting up your combo for, I'm going very mild, 6.90 @ 200.

You probably know the guys I bought the blower from, they run a SBC in a truck down your general direction??

Thanks, I will check it out.
I sent them an email yesterday about buying a cam.
I'm still so confused about which injection & ignition system to use.
Hopefully they have a video for that??

Do you happen to know anyone in your area running something like what you're planning? If so I would make that phone call and ask a couple questions... or when the season starts (providing you don't need the setup up and running at that time) I would take a walk over and see what they're using.
Ign you are going to want that magneto to keep the thing lit, once you start pushing some serious boost with alcohol the ign power is going to be put to the test.
Tom Kemph is running alcohol with his lsx now, he went to a magneto and has a 114 mm turbo on that car.. you may be able to get some useful information from him regarding the ign and whatnot as well, try Pming him (fastr than u on here)

That's exactly what's driving me insane!!!
A bunch of guys say you must use EFI.
Another is flying with a blow through.
Another said screw them, mechanical injection is best!!
Same with ignition.
Two guys are running a digital 7 box.
Some a -8.
Some a -10.
Some a magneto??
I had planned a Power Grid, and blow through.
I can't get a conscience on anything??
I am going to the expo, Sat for sure, and maybe Sun.
I'm bringing a notebook, tape recorder, and I'm going to bug the frick out of everyone there.
The only thing I know for sure is I'm not going EFI, and I really can't afford some top fuel magneto!!
If I can't use my magneto, or power grid, I will find 2 used -10 boxes and hope for the best??
Everyone at least agrees that will at least work good enough??
Even though one of the guys that uses a -8 is pretty damn smart, so who knows??
Another issue is most of them keep saying I won't stick to my plans??
1750 HP is more then I need, and I will never crank it up to 2000 plus!!
A 557" with a F-3 on alcohol better do that with ease!!
I'm old, lazy and cheap.
I do not need the extra maintenance required at 2500 HP, 1750 will be enough to handle.
Thanks again, have to call the magneto guy now.

The magneto I can't imagine would be a bad idea.
If you can get it tuned in right with a mechanical injection system then by all means, I don't know anyone that's done that with a procharger type system, plenty that have done it with 1471 type blowers and big and ugly hat's and the like.. that's tried and proven no problems.
Boost is boost, not sure what type of mechanical injection you could use, maybe a flying toilet with a carb type hat? Also, not sure what power level anyone's doing with a blow thru, at what point do you hit the wall with one of those setup's, I have heard different levels for gas run blow thru systems, no idea with alcohol...
Better get lots of info on this at the 1700+ you're planning on it's still a serious maintenance program no matter what. And with alcohol if you get it too rich you'll wash the rings right out of it and turn the oil into what looks like milk really fast, you have to have that really close right away.

I have a Steve Morris camshaft for a blown LSX project I'm working on.
We're using a FAST XFI with (16) 80# Injectors and Methanol.
Since this is a Roots Blown application, we used Hilborn for the injection system. They did all the calculations for Injector sizing and helped us with fuel system options with Alcohol.
Another person you might want to contact with some assistance on your build other then Steve would be Jake @ Jakes Performance Fabrication. He builds some Badass Procharged cars. I currently have him building a crank support for me. He's an awesome guy to talk to.
Both Steve and Jake would be excellent starting points for information on your build.
Also Hilborn. They have been great to us so far.
As far as a Magneto goes... Back in the late 80's and early 90's I used a Ronco Vertex Magneto in my Blown BBC I used to run. It never failed me.

OK, called the magneto guys.
They said 1500 HP max on mine before you start having issues.
It's an older Vertex that was upgraded, but if they said iffy, then I'm not risking it.
So now the ignition is between a Power Grid and a -8 box.
I'm not buying some used box that has been discontinued, so the -10 is out.
With my luck a $2 part will break they don't have any left!!
Contacted the Flying Toilet guys today and left a message.
So we'll see if they have anything??
Forgot about Hilborn, I was going to contact Enderle next, but I'll look them up now.
Thanks again guys, like I said, in my book ALL information helps.
I'm in no hurry, I will get this thing out this year some how, that's my only goal.
Even if all I can do is scuff some slicks without it melting, I'll be ecstatic!!

I've been asking on several sites, including the bullet.
I'm smart enough to admit I'm way over my head, so I have no problem listening to all opinions.
I have not heard back yet from James.
Stumped what's your ignition & fuel system if it's not a secret??
Thanks guys.

I would suggest that you post this up on YellowBullet and see what you get. Steve Morris is good with these; but you might consider talking with Mark Micke. He has an injection system that is somewhat of a hybrid blend of mechanical and electronic injection. I am a big mechanical injection fan; but when I was looking into it for a turbo application I soon found that it was not going to do what I want with my combo. The problem comes in when a person is using an auto with a trans brake. A mechanical system has to be very complex to compensate for the needs of the load placed on the engine as it comes off the brake. Long story short the system that I would have needed would have basically had two sets of nozzles. One for N/A and one for boost. There is a fine line on how you tune between the two. If you are not planning on making much power a carb will work (C&S specialties there and no other have carbs on 2500+hp engines); but they are still some what of a crutch. I had a buddy that went EFI on a big power procharged set-up not that long ago and he said that it was the best thing he ever did for the car. It made it have manors and driveability like a street car.
