Default 98 Camaro Drag Build

I am going to document my build in here after being able to read and enjoy everyone's build that I read while overseas. I have started with a 1998 Camaro V6. I paid just under a thousand for it. So not a bad start. I hope you enjoy and please fell free to post comments for advice along the way. Also if anyone can tell me how to post the pics bigger and not thumbnails pm me and let me know please.

I got the V6 and front end removed. I ordered a PA racing K member and some spohn solid motor mounts. Also my ARP main studs came in yesterday and after checking for clearance I am going to have to re linehone the block.

I finished working the heads over today. I also put my nine inch in the the vat. Hopefully tomorrow I can cut off the stock brackets and start welding on mine. I also started striping the interior. Just some specs on what im building. I started with a LQ9 and bored and stroked to a 408 I am going to run a carb with a fogger system. I have a built TH400 and a ford nine inch. I decided to build the nine inch myself instead of buying one due to the fact that I am trying to save money and I work at a machine shop and like to build things myself. I will have more pics tomorrow. Also I am going to be building my own roll cage if any one has dimensions and some pics please email them to me at s.burns1001@yahoo.com

Thank you
Shane

^^ to answer that

driveablitly isnt there, its aggrevating to tune and doesnt look as cool. I've got a 68 camaro w/ 383 sbc and a carb. I hate the carb setup. I can't stand dealing with the carb adjustments with the weather changes.

Carb for a race car, I'd do that all day long, you really only need it to start and idle, be able to do the burnout and then run @ WOT.... drivability with a drag car isn't something that's important.

It needs to start, idle, not stall when you whack the throttle, and run right with the loud pedal matted... that's it, and a carb will do that NO problem, and do it well.

I know more then one person that's picked up power in race rpm range after ditching the efi, fwiw. And if you know what you're doing with a carb you won't have any issues getting it to run right.

BBC I'm putting in my junk will have a carb, someday maybe 2. And if I were to somehow end up with another ls engine in the car some day, it too would absolutely have a carb on it.

Thank you all for the input. I have ran a few Carbed BBC and SBC in the past and have had great results.

As for today. I pulled the nine inch out of the vat and power washed it. That thing was dirty. But hey I paid 30 dollars for it. I started cutting off the stock brackets and cleaning it up.

I also got my K member, Motor mounts and my new TH400 Trans mount in today. I started installing them all. Here are a few pics. Also I am going to have to go out of town for a week for work. So hopefully I will have new post in a week. thanks for following.

I had a extra LQ9 sitting around so I put my intake on it and installed it to check fitment. I am going to have to cut the firewall and box it in. It shouldnt be that bad.

Also does anybody know if the steering linkage is the same for V6 to LSx. If not I will build a new one but it would save some time to keep the old one.

you would have a hard time convincing that to some here lately at the BES racing engine shop. playing around with a lot of things and picked up a little power with EFI, and seems to be working even better with some NOS setups.

you can go all day with the carb vs EFI thing. After having both, I dont know if I will ever deal with a carb again.

This thread makes me miss my '99 Z28.

For the pics, set up a photobucket account, then use the IMG link to post your photos here. Works great.

We have evolved far beyond a carb! They can still run good, and make good power but they have more downsides then up.

No, the rack and the steering shaft is different. The input shaft on the V6 rack is on a different angle than the V8 rack and the shaft is also different. IIRC, w/the V6 rack, the angle of the input/steering shaft hit the #1 header tube. I picked a V8 rack and s/s up off of here for a pretty reasonable price a few years back..... I did basically the same conversion, exept w/a '96.

Finally finished line honing the motor and put back in the studs after a good cleaning. Sorry about the pics I am taking them with my phone.

I hope to have the diff housing striped of the factory brackets and start getting the F body brackets on the nine inch in the next week or two.
