Default Which lightweight brakes??

Flipping through National Dragster there are several different types of lightweight breaks and I'm a little confused on which ones to buy. Strange, Aerospace, US Brake, Wilwood?? What setup do you guys recommend?

Thanks in advance...

Big Mike,

I have the Strange set-up on the Hot Rod. I love them. They do cost a pretty penny although.

If I had to buy them again I would get the Wilwoods or the US brakes. The cost is a little better.

Thanks Coach! I noticed that the Strange setups were more expensive than the likes. What are your thoughts on the Aerospace brakes? Did you install the brakes yourself? Is it a hard job to do?

Madman did the install. If I remember right, you have to do some grinding to get them to fit. From what I see around at the tracks, most prople run the Strange or Wilwood brakes. I only know about the Aerospace brakes from what I have read on this site.

Mike I know with the Strange Brakes you save a few more pounds due the new Axles /Hubs (aluminum) that come with the set-up I don't belive Areospace and wilwood comes with it. I am running the strange up front and the willwoods in the rear. I know Bob At NRC is running the areospace that we saw the one time we were down there and they looked really nice

I have the Aerospace Pro Street front and rear brake kit. They actually aren't on the car yet buy they look REAL nice. They come with some nice heavy duty hawk pads, too. They guy at Aerospace said they would be OK for daily driving and stop MUCH better then stock brakes and save me several pounds. I'll report back once I get them on and drive them around a bit...

Question though - does anyone know if the ABS will work with this kit?

Mike,

After comparing my Aerospace Brakes with Strange and Wilwood I would be happy with any of them. I like how well my Aerospace brakes stop. But, I'm more impressed by the design of the Strange brake setup. The rotors are significantly nicer and the calipers are a better design, although very similar. If I had to do it over again I would purchase the Strange brakes instead.

Either way, I think that any of them will work quite well.

the strange are nice, a PITA to install.Saves 40+ over stock.(Fronts only)
ABS will NOT work.

I know people who have aerospace and they say they aren't to fond of them.
I can't notice a difference stopping wise, they feel like stock, but my car is light.

I think from a performance standpoint,if you are only drag racing the car,
it really doesn't make a difference which ones you buy.
I am not familiar with wilwood or US, though.

Another thing to ask on the topic would be what wheels and back spacing are you guys running with your break combos for front and back. Did you need any spacers and are your rearends shortened up at all. That will give us some additional background on clearance issues.

Big Mike, how does your car stop now?

I'm considering Strange or Wilwood, just the fronts, will 15x3.5 Welds fit without a spacer?

I've got Strange heavy duty 4 pistons for all four corners.

The replacement hubs up front drop a decent amount of weight, and the quality of parts is pretty amazing on the Strange pieces.

Yes, and you don't need a spacer.

John,

The car stops good right now. The main reason I want to switch is for weight savings. Once the parachute goes on, that will take care of slowing the car down. Like I said, I just want to save weight. From what it sounds like I really can't go wrong with either of the "Big Name" brake companies. I guess I will call Strange, Aerospace, Wilwood and US Brake and do some homework on pricing, fitment, etc. I will post back here whatever valuble info I can find.

Allan just got thru installing the Strange drag brakes kit on my car, front & rear.
He told me the weight savings was 112 lbs.
The car had stock calipers and powerslot rotors.

I have the strange drag brakes, yes they were expensive, but well worth it ! Also went with the manual master cylinder and deleted ABS. It's a quality package and was well worth the money. The install was alittle involved but nothing major. But you have to remember they are drag brakes not street brakes.

Gordon Mike K. and I was eyeballing your Strange Brake Kit. In the back of my mind I could hear Candy yelling "Stop Thief!" Of course she would be yelling that for Mike K. I was actually looking for that 418ci of yours..
