Default Wiring Removal

I threw up a post in the LT1 section without too many responses. I'm working on removing a few pounds out of my car and cleaning up some of the messy wiring I have after I have removed a bunch of stuff.

So far I have removed---
AIR pump, EGR, ABS, Airbags, AC and everything that goes with it, HVAC box, bumper supports, Fog lights, Cruise control, TCS, blah blah blah.

I'm working on pulling the wiring harness to pull out the extra wires that aren't being used anymore. The issue that I'm having is that I have no idea what I can get rid of in the interior without making my car not run anymore. The stereo and speakers will be pulled so all of that wire can go, HVAC is gone so all of that wiring can now go, but there is a bunch of other stuff in there.

Whats what under the dash? Anyone have any input? Otherwise I guess I'm just going to remove the things I know I can without ill effects and reloom the harness and throw it back in.

Thanks guys

You'd be better off getting a repair manual so you know what's what. Things like the theft deterrent relay and module, hatch release relay, rap module, etc etc are under there. You can remove whatever you want and wire it the way you want as well. Not being a dick but to spoon feed you everything without you giving any sort of direction is a lot of time and effort. When you are uncertain about something, just ask. There's a couple threads in here about it. InsaneAuto86 had a couple threads on it. Find them and they should get you started.

I understand that, I have been searching for threads but didn't really come up with much. I have a repair manual but its pretty basic. I have looked through the wiring schematics on shbox but they are also pretty basic.

I'm keeping the factory gauges for the time being, also keeping the power windows. The keyless entry and stuff like that I would like to remove, but I don't know if its possible while keeping the factory PCM.

Thanks for the reply, I'll check out Insane's thread and go from there

Ok I looked up InsaneAuto86s thread but the pics are dead.

I know what the R.A.P, keyless entry, & express down module look like, but how do you remove them and still have the car start and the windows work?

I would also like to remove the VATS but I don't have it disabled in my tune. I heard that you can ground a wire on the VATS but I think it has to be disabled.

I'm going to work on it a little more this weekend so I will take some pics and ask some more questions if I need to.

I was going to remove my RAP in my 93 this weekend. I don’t care about the radio or power windows working after the car is shut off, I have the wiring diagram from the gm manual for the 93 and it looks like cutting it out shouldn’t get in the way of anything. I can post the gm diagram but I don’t know how much that will help, being a 93 and all.

Let us know how it turns out

Ya I can get the diagrams off of shbox. Guess I'll have to look over the diagrams a little harder. I don't need the Express Down or the R.A.P modules, so I'm going to try to get rid of them and clean up the mass of wiring under the dash. Later on I plan on running a Megasquirt with aftermarket gauges so I'll probably rip everything out when I do the switch and make it lighter with a painless or similar wiring harness.

I'd like to fix my key fobs, but they haven't worked since I took out the mess of wiring that was a "professionally installed aftermarket alarm." Might have to look into whats not hooked up anymore and see if I can fix it while everything is apart.

I'm going to build a light weight heater like studderin did, but I'm just going to wire the fan motor to a switched 12v so it will just run on high when its turned on. And I'll put the switch in my ash tray with the manual fan override and the line lock arming switch when I put it in.

Thanks, hopefully I can knock a few pounds out of it and rewrap it to make it look better.

Thanks man, I was going to work on it this week, but I caught a cold and have felt like **** until tonight. Hopefully tomorrow I will get some ambition and go out and pull the rest of my interior and start cutting wires out.

I wire stuff for a living so hopefully I can figure this **** out

I have been looking on shbox.com and I have a good idea on what I can pull out of the PCM but I will have a few questions.

Tomorrow night and Saturday I should get a chance to start on it again.

Ok made a BUNCH of progress today thanks to my brother coming over to help me, but now I have a couple more questions.

On the driver side there is a silver box tucked up by the steering column, I looked it up and it is said to be the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM). Can I remove all of the wiring from that thing? My ABS is long gone and I figured that most of the wires go to the underhood fuse box and the ABS block. Am I right here? Or does it tie into the brake light or anything else?

I also pulled the factory sub, rear speakers, antenna, carpet, and started cutting the firewall insulation out. Now I'm going to finish unhooking the steering column wiring and get the wiring harness out

I believe you'll get the brake lights lit on the dash, I can't remember if mine did. I pulled the bulbs.

Ya most of the wire go to the abs block. I just traced and cut the wires going to the dash that light up the brake lights. It slimmed down my harness pretty nicely, I am getting cruise control out when I get a chance to mess with it again.

Thanks guys, I melted my cruise cable with my header so that's already gone. With the ABS, Cruise, & fog light wiring out my harness is going to be a lot smaller

I'm also planning on wiring my Electric Water Pump into the engine bay fuse block to clean it up a little more. I should have an extra couple of relays to wire it into.

No need to worry about the lights in the dash, most of them are already gone

You can do the waterpump to the air pump relay, pretty simple once you understand what is going on.

have you pulled out the wiper stuff yet?
I started to pull the wiper stuff out but ran into a little trouble, l was looking at the wiring diagram and the fuse wiring was all wrong in the diagram. I happened to notice that it was almost like the power accessory fuse and wiper fuse wiring was swapped. I traced all the wiring and it looks like that’s what it is.

So the wipers are run through what is labeled as the power accessory and the power accessory is run through what is labeled as wiper/washer. I have the gm manual from my year and even the fuse panel cover has them backwards
very strange
