Arrow Best way to safely run 11.50's w/ your DD

My goal for my 2000 A4 Z28 is to run 11.50's (due to the NHRA rules) I don't want to put a cage in my DD.

What's the best combo to consistently and safely run 11.50's?
Keep in mind this is my daily driver so this needs to be reliable. I would prefer to keep it NA also.

My current mods are: lid, BBK LT's & ORY, Dynomouth catback. Free mods, Stock 3:23 gears. Stock tune still. Weighs 3175 without me in it, (I weigh about 170)

Parts waiting on the shelf: 25% UD pulley, 223/231 .610/.610 114lsa cam with supporting parts (rods, springs etc)

Drag radials are on my list, I was thinking about using my old 16" stock wheels and running 26x10.50x16 DR's.

From what I've read a stall converter will help get me close to my goal. What one would you recommend?

In it's current state I was running consistent 8.20's @ 87mph in the 1/8th. I haven't had a chance to run the 1/4 yet because Speedworld is closed, but I would estimate high 12's in current trim.

3600 helped me a lot. I think you'd be right in the ballpark.

Cam and stall and I would say you would be pretty close, not there yet but not getting booted from track either..

4000 ptc.. That should put you extremely close, possibly there at your weight depending on the da.

Your current time is good for a mid 12..

Are you sure about that weight?? Mine's the same as 1320Chicken with no weight reduction and its 3660 raceweight including the 6 pt. Yeah cam, stall and maybe gears should get you there. I'd go 3600-4000 on the stall, my 4500 was in the car when I got it and I love it, but then its just a weekend toy!!!

Going to watch this thread, i have mods in sig and i ran 12.30 on 20 inch rims with stock cam. im putting a 8.8 rear end with 3.73(for now) slicks, UDP , shaner s3 TB with retune for this season looking for 11.90 or faster and its my DD.

I think 3600-4000 stall and some slicks will get you close!

My car is my daily driver and runs 11.50s all day just as i drive it everyday on 17's. I built the bottom with forged pistons and rods since the stock one broke and figured i would beef it up while i was there but its still stock compression. So here is my mod list and my car is also full weight, spare tire and extra crap in the car at all times just like a normal dd.

230/234 cam .600 112lsa
dart heads (ported)
fast 92/92
pacesetter lt's
OR Y pipe
Magnaflow catback
Vigilante 3200 stall
3:73 gears
Toyo 275/40/17 drag radials

so thats what it took for me

On one of my old cars, I was running 11.6's on motor. The car was fairly light, right around what yours is ~3100. The thing that helped was that it was 60fting mid 1.5's on motor. Here were my mods:

Stock 98 ls1 w/stock ls1 intake, 4l60
Lakewood boxed LCA's
Sheetmetal ram air under lid (w/aftermarket lid)
224/230 .588/592 cam on 112 I think
TCI 3800 converter
275/50/15' MT Drag radials on 8" Welds, front runners as well
SFC's
Pacesetter headers
True duals
Emissions delete

And that's about it, the car just worked well. Daily drove it, winter car, pizza delivery car lol.

if your weight of car is correct you should easily be able to run 11.50's, thats 300-500 lbs less than a full weight f body. And i LOVE the cam choice, that thing should be very nice for a DD. Its going to depend alot on your 60', ive seen high 1.4's all the way up to high 1.7's with the same stall, which would be a 6 tenth difference on the other end! For stalls and our cars the bigger the better, since the difference in 1st and 2nd gear creates a huge fall back rpm wise. 3600 stall that hits pretty hard and some 3.73's as long as youre staying with the 26" tall tire shifting at 6200, will put you there easily. Might even surprise yourself if that weight is accurate.

Thanks for the responses guys!

The weight is correct, I weighed it at a waste management facility after I pulled a bunch of weight. I have no passenger seats, all emission stuff deleted. I went thru the weight reduction list thats stickied and removed over 270 lbs of junk. The car wasn't that heavy to start with, just under 3500. I have a fiberglass pin-on hood too so that helped.

I was looking at a stall 3500-3800 so it's still streetable. I had a 3200 stall in my old TBSS and loved that. But then again I've never driven a 4000 stall so that might be considered streetable for me.

I'd like to keep my 3:23's to keep my 25+ highway mpg.

I'm still on stock suspension other than eibach pros in front with KYB AGX's, and BMR springs in back with stock shocks still. (removed front sway bar)

What would I need to upgrade on the suspension to safely run 11.50's?

This sounds pretty close to what mine will be once I'm finished. What gears do you have?

I ran consistent 11.60s with mine with heavy ZR1 rims, fat tires on the front with the front sway bar attached and nittos out back. It is a 383 tho ;-)
I'm hoping to go low 11s with my new Drag rim setup.

My car is my dd. It's easy enough to run 11.5. With proper mods that's bolt-on territory. Should be easy enough to drive a bolt-on car.

They were 3.23's, cruised nicely with OD and still 60ft'd quite respectively. Good luck!!

I daily drove my car with the 4000 stall for 4-5 months and loved it! It gets driven now only when it's dry, after 35 mph it goes into overdrive and drives like stock

I just bought nitto 555r drag radials, I'm heading to Orlando Speed World this friday. I will post my results.

Here's a pic of my car as it sits.

My next investment will be a built trans and 3500-3800 stall converter most likely from FTI since they're local.

Car runs strong for what little mods it has: Only got in 4 runs at OSW last night. Best: 12.74 @ 109.55

1st: 12.82 @ 109.61
2nd: 12.83 @ 108.82 (hot lapped)
3rd: 12.77 @ 109.42
4rd: 12.74 @ 109.55

I have a video of the 12.77 on my facebook but can't figure out how to link it here. There supposed to be a video of my 12.74 taken by some other ls1tech guys.
