Default what would it take to put an 01 trans Am in the 9's

Looking to take an m6 trans am into the nines on spray. Car will have some weight reductions like no a/c no bumper supports no back seats but mostly a simple free weight reduction car. S60 rearend narrowed 3 on each side on weld rts with m/t et streets strange duel adjustable shocks, duel adjustable lca's, panhard bar, mwc torque arm, mwc sfc's, stock rear springs. Stock front suspension stock k member but thinking to do front end when motor comes out ie kmember strange shocks unknown spring. Okay so as of now its a full exhaust bolt on ls6 intake car...wanting to do a spray build ... maybe and forged lq4 ... would like some ideas and thoughts about my ideas

Yup, first thing i would do. Now is it going to be 90% track and 10% street? If so, go built turbo 400 and never look back

Yeah its going to be at drag car with a little street use. I know that going auto would definitely make the car more consistent, however I feel the need to do it with the 6 speed at least for now. U think I could push a stock bottom end stock 241s with a bump stick and a 200 shot there? Or build a lq4 with a tsp strocker kit and throw a set of milled 243s at it? I know u could throw a turbo car together an fly but I am not looking to go boosted have had alot of FI cars time for a change

Your T56 and associated parts are going to make you alot more money now functioning than they are broken. Go TH400 now, your wallet will thank you later.

Definately start off with your suspension and drivetrain, it will be harder to get the numbers you want if you cant put the power to the ground.

Agree
I sold my perfect t56 to fund my new FTI stage 4 TH400 and 8" converter.
The 6 speed is going to cost you a lot of $$$ to go 9s, and break a lot of parts on the way for even more $$ and time down.

What would I need to go th400 besides petal assembly, trans crossmember, driveshaft, would I need a different center console? Wiring harness computer? ? And what would all the parts run me for the swap. .. and what trans builder is top dog for a kickass build?

I did a th400 not to long ago, its really simple....you'll need
-longer drive shaft
-Proper converter for ls
-Fly wheel
-You can keep your m6 console.
-A shifter RMVB if you decide to go that way
-Trans cross member or you can modify your m6 one (i did)
-Pedals
-Dip stick
i might be forgetting something but thats mostly it.

As for who's top dog...you got a lot of choices depending on your budget.. You can pick up a use build th400 for under $1500..If you are looking to get a new one, then RPM transmissions, Jake's performance build pretty bad *** trans, FTI, FLT, Rossel (if money is not a problem), and the list goes on and on....

you can sell your t56 and put the difference and get a pretty complete th400 swap, i bought mine for $2400 with everything but the driveshaft and its rated at 1000+ RWHP.

What he said only I'm finding it's a lot more $$

I'm into it for over $3k so far that includes $1500 FTI stage 4, $800 FTI converter, lokar dipstick around $100, mezier flywheel around $400, CSR carbon shield around $300, shifter $200, transmission cooler $90,

Still need: drive shaft, spacer for my BMR M6 cross member, new flex-plate to be balanced to my old flywheel (I have external balance), new flex-plate bolts, temp gauge, grant steering wheel with buttons for trans brake etc., the buttons and wiring, trans fluid ... the list doesn't seem to be ending anytime soon

I'm using the M6 pedals for now and don't know if I will bother to change them.

This is the route I went.

I sold my six speed, clutch tick master cylinder, shifter etc. and is really softened the blow for my swap. Of course I bought all of the over kill stuff so there will never be a reason to upgrade later.

Me and a couple of locals run the Jake's TH400 and they are really bad ***. A buddy of mine that runs his th400 ran a best of 8.19 and IIRC, trapped 18Xmph.

You will still be stuck wtih a weak auto transmission - IMHO 6spd to TH400 swap is easier then auto to TH400 swap

This is exactly what drives me to put my m6 in the 9's...
But I'm going to do it with a 100% stock short block.
I just gotta shave off a few more tenths!

It's actually easier to convert an M6 in my case (LT1) ... I think LS1 is the same, it's actually easier to convert M6->Th400 then starting with an auto car. Crossmember is kept, no PCM changes, etc. If you start with an auto, you actually have to flash the auto PCM to a manual when using a th400, the auto crossmember is no good, etc.

Go over to the automatic transmission section and read the swap stickies
