I use holesaw bits, actually these ones except I got them on sale for $34. Takes just a few seconds to rip through and make the holes, the most time for me is spent looking at where I want to strategically put them

Also this might have been said and I missed it but have you thought about a targa top? That's would take off a lot of weight by ditching those heavy *** t-tops
What is the weight difference? and how does the conversion work?

Yes a hole saw bit is what I have been using for the most part.

you need to do a t-top conversion if you are a hard top, then you need to use the locks/stuff from the t-top and apply it to the targa top. Targa top goes on like the t-top but I think the carbon fiber one weighs in at like 5lbs or so

1lb 0oz other Under dash cover

1lb 6oz for both sides front bumper/fender bracket

2oz bracket at front of console

1lb 3oz Shifter bezel/cupholder

3oz driver rear quarter panel vent

2lbs(loss after making new piece out of carpet) Under column panel

All of the following is a loss of 31lbs 15oz
Total now 82lbs 13oz

Dash pad 4lbs 11oz. made new one out of carpet that weighs 9oz including screws. for a loss of 4lbs 2oz

I will post an installed pic later

Glove box 2lbs 7oz(stock one weighs more, I have already cut some out of mine). made new one out of cover from carpet that weighs less than than the catch for the glove box so this is a loss of at least 2lbs 7oz

carpet. Old front carpet with padding already removed was 27lbs (I think. Have to recheck because it is in my shed and I weighed it a few months ago and didn't write it down, but I think that is correct) THis is from rear seats forward. New carpet was 2lbs 8oz including trim screws.
Loss of 24lbs 8oz

14oz gauge bezel. I decided I didn't need this. I will make something out of carpet to cover the edges. Should weigh less than an ounce and I have not been counting the half ounces, so I not going to add that small amount back.

I have to test the engine and make a few changes after that, so that will probably delay work on weight reduction for a little bit. I still have a few things not posted yet, but they are on my old phone. Also a few things I have not weighed yet.

Well sorry for not having an update in a while. Unfortunately, I got very sick for a while and then found out I had stage 4 cancer. Long story short. I made it through it so far and am cancer free. I am continuing progress on losing weight on this car, but I am not going to be keeping up with every ounce. I'm just making a build thread found here: https://ls1tech.com/forums/drag-raci...l#post18977030

Damn dude. I'm sorry to hear about the cancer but I'm glad that your free of it. But **** the car, focus on your health. Stay positive and strong!

I do admire your dedication/innovation on the car. Best of luck with everything!

Thanks man. Luckily the car was still running when I was dealing with my health issues and its one of the things that helped me get through this. I was racing every chance I got and it helped me forget about things at times. I am doing great now and I have been cancer free since February.

Thats true. I didn't think about using the car as a relief or a way to clear your mind/strees. Good idea!

Did you ever weigh it?

I too am trying to take everything out to offset for the weight of the cage. I'm going with chromoly but damn it's expensive. lol

Never weighed it. Last time I had it in the shop they told me they had scales and could have weighed it for me When I get it back together it will be going back to the shop and I am going to ask them to weigh it for me.
