Default TH400 driveshaft - Steel, CM, Aluminum?

3" steel or CM?
3" aluminum?

I was all set on steel but the local driveshaft shop says 3" aluminum is plenty for 500HP and wheels up launches. What say you?

.083 wall 3" here in steel. No complaints and it'll hold up to more than I'll ever make.

I'm leaning towards steel
been googling and there is a lot of aluminum failures, and the aluminium ones that work seem to be huge

GM'a original thin wall aluminum shafts do fail. A lot. Thicker wall, better grade Aftermarket aluminium shafts, like from Inland Empire, are fine. I don't remember the last NHRA race car I saw with a steel shaft. Everybody is using aluminium or carbon fibre.

I've had both PST Aluminum, and Carbon Fiber driveshafts. Both have been great products. Still running the Carbon now for 5-6 years without issue. Extremely high critical speed as well.
