Angry BMR k-frame wont go, am I missing something?

I have been playing with this on and off for two days now. I bought this used so obviously it was on a car and driving before. I have bent, pried, tugged, loosened everything and there is no way this steering shaft is going to go all the way on the rack Only solution I see is to cut and reweld the rack brackets but I sure dont trust my welding skills that much.

I have seen some guys say they had trouble with these but man is this far off. Yes the bolt is loose on the top and thats all the travel the shaft has, the rack had a jack under it pushing it as far as it would go also. I dont know if its possible to break the plastic on the shaft by the u-joint for the crash collapsing thing and get another 1/2" or not - anyone else's been this far off?

I'm about ready to just put the stock k-frame back on and find someone that weighs 40lbs less then me to drive the car

Had the same problem here. I just elongated the holes on the upper attachment so I could slide it down a little more.

I didnt pull the shaft of all the way but I didnt think there was much more I could go, I assume you mean making the slot in shaft coming out of the column a little longer?

Thanks,

I'll see how much is there to grind, I probably need 1/4-3/8 of an inch.

I'll fool with it tomorrow, getting sick of looking at it

I had left the whole steering assembly together when I swapped it. I did the same thing when I put the stock K-Member back in. I had to pry on it just a little to get the 2 bolts in on the K-Member. Maybe if you left all the bolts loose so you have more movement

Hey Mark, I had it loose and moved it around as much as the locating pins would let me. Its just way far off, I'm sure I could loosen the rear bolts and get it on then thighten it back up but I'm kinda touchy about steering stuff being right I'm sure some cars are a little off rom others, some guys have no issues and others do from what I have read. I'll spend some time with it today - I was a little beat last night messing with it.. I went this far and I'll get it to work somehow.

Take the steering colum loose and pull it back alittle. That will give you enough room to get the shaft on.

I may be able move the column under the dash a bit to get it, didnt think about that..

The shaft is on the rack, problem is it wont go enough to get the steering shaft bolt in at the rack.
