I just started cutting the excess wiring out. Started with the plug and harness for the amp mounted in the right rear fender. I removed all the wire from ther to just in front of the passenger seat. It had to weigh 10lbs or more. I think there is still another 15 lbs of wire behind the dash to remove.

My winter project: pulling the heater core and using a Flex-A-Lite Mojave heater (I think they sell them in Summit). They retail for about $150 and I think they're fairly light. This will be perfect since I only drive the car during spring and summer. Anyone have any experience with them?

-- EDIT --

Just got an e-mail from Flex-A-Lite. The heater weighs 7 lbs. The plenum vent box weighs 2. Just an FYI.

I'd say with your weight reduction and adding those items, you are probably right about the same place you were before removing the spark/jack and windshield wiper fluid. Subframes are heavy, the EWP adds a couple of pounds, the Hals will remove about 10 lbs, the LCAs and PHB should be a little lighter then stock, but the torque arm is heavier I believe, so I would say the rear suspension balances itself out. You might be 10-15 lbs lighter then you were stock, depending on what type and how heavy the subframes are.

Edit, with the TCI stall and ASP pulleys, you have balanced out the subframes, I would say. So, probably 40-50 pounds lighter than bone stock.

Here is one more for 5 more pounds off the nose.

I took my Summit racing coolant overflow tank out of my 72 chevelle and put it in the bird.

I ditched the stock coolant overflow tank and lost 5 pounds.

Most due to less coolant but also due to removing the huge black container and replacing it with a tiny coolant over flow tank

I'm at 2950 now in search of getting lighter!!

Hey dudes, this is a really long thread, and i might have missed something, but i thought i'd chime in with some personal research if it can help anyone out.
Stock 2000 SS 17X9 rim with 275/40/17 Tire = 54lbs X 4 = 216lbs. Centerline Convo Pro 15X4 rim with Mickey Thompson ET Front 26X4.5X15 tire = 24lbs X2 = 48lbs. Centerline Convo Pro 15X7.5 with Mickey Thompson 26X10.5X15 w/ Tube = 39lbs X 2 = 78lbs.
That is a total weight saving of 90lbs just in rims and tires. For those that might use different tires (I will probably go to 28" tall for the back myself soon) the front rims are 12lbs each and the rear rims are 14lbs each. Front tires are 12lbs each and rear tires with tubes are 25lbs each.

Anyone look at putting in a non-tilt steering column, as how much lighter it might be? looking at options to getting my car down from 3220 to about 3050. I know I can get about 100 lbs out, but most of that is off the rear not really where I would like to take it out. Done most the normal stuff looking to the nots so normal now I guess, time to get out the hole saw.

New item for the list. Just pulled my Firebird headlights and weighed them. I first removed the metal skins that cover the lights. I will rig some brackets out of aluminum for those. Total weight was 19.5 pounds right off the nose

What is the difference in weight between 17" chrome SS wheels/tires and 16" wheels/tires. When I weighed my 16s with tires, they were 42lbs. I haven't had the opportunity to weigh the 17s.

Anybody know the weight of a stock Z28 hood? I want to get a VFN SS hood (OEM version) and want to know how much weight savings this would entitle me too.

Any downside of running a VFN bolt on hood made of fiberglass? Their replacement 2" cowl hood looks nice and only weighs 18 lbs!

Anyone know if this can be done to a '98-up Firebird with the Monsoon stereo? I almost think the speakers are in the way of where the window crank would go.
Any info would be nice.

I'd like to see a picture of this or a description of what is involved. I have planned on doing this myself, but have not gotten around to it yet .

On my LT1 I put a small overflow tank where the old AC canister went. I don't really have a good or current picture but it's the shiny can next to the alternator. Later I added a aluminum fitting on top and a overflow hose going to the front of the car in case it boils over.
