Colonel, you are my hero when it comes to weight reduction <img src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" border="0" alt="[jester]" /> <img src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" border="0" alt="[jester]" /> <img src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" border="0" alt="[jester]" />

Seriously, my car is down to around 3175 or so, and I have a pin-on hood sitting here to go on the car when it goes back together. The new hood should take me down in the 3150 neighborhood I think. I can't really think of much else left while maintaining a "full interior" appearance (which a lot of sanctioning bodies require in certain races). Lexan windows are out, since I like to roll them down, and again, lexan is not allowed in most "street car" type classes. I could switch to an aluminum center section in the 9" rear, for about 20lbs. savings, and I'm sure I could lose some more weight in the torque arm, since the crossmember on the Spohn arm is overly beefy. Other than those things, and maybe a few misc. things here and there, I don't think I can get much lighter...

Yep, I know what you mean. That's why I didn't go all out with the Ti. on my bike. I'll keep my eye out for the aluminium stuff. Still, the stuff makes me drool. I like all 'inium stuff including unobtanium! <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0">

Carpet update: Stock carpet, 42 lbs. Took off all the deadening off the back, and carpet now weighs 25 lbs.
Put the roll bar in & then cut the carpet across the middle of where the back seat bottoms go. Now if it gets to the point where I am really worried about weight, I can easily pull out the back piece of carpet, when I pull the back seats, and my carpet will drop more than half of 25. I figure the carpet will weigh 13 lbs at that point. No too bad & still looks stock.

I wonder if anyone has really tried this option but what about a full carbon fiber body replacement? Mucho moolah I'm sure but I wonder if it'd save much weight...

Carbon Fiber Manufacturing

They supposedly have a full carbon fiber replacement for a 98-00 Pontiac Firebird

I emailed about those lightweight bodies. Here is what they said...

"Stephen, the 2000 Camero body in carbon is about 75 lbs, and is $5000.00 , in fiberglass it is about 130 lbs and $3000.00 I also offer it with fiberglass main body with carbon front end, hood and doors for $4000.00 thanks for the interest."

75 pounds for a carbon fiber body sounds pretty light to me. Has anyone ever actually weighed the stock body to know how much weight one would actually save from this? Would carbon fiber be more prone to dents and stuff compared to the stock stuff? I wonder if it'd be feasible at all as a daily driver.

You guys rock!

All considered the money we spend on these cars, a C/F body might not be that bad a price. I wonder what the stock weight of the panels are... probably 200+?

I'm curious, does an aftermarket catback like the SLP 2OTL weigh a lot less than the factory one? I know the Loudmouth probably does because of the lack of a real muffler.

I don't know about that one but my B&B Tri-flos weighed about 8 lbs more than my stock SS exhaust best I remember.

I have horn listed but with no weight. So you weighed the horn to be 3 lbs or is that an estimation?

Thanks!
