Tks for the info. That shipping weight is rather suspect. For comparison, L/S and M/S 5.0 Mustangs run at ~3150-3200 lbs (with much less HP, of course). Kinda sounds like GM wanted to get them in as quick a class as possible...perhaps to go after a 9 second stocker?

The crank trigger bolts to the front of the motor using an ATI damper. It can be done without the ATI but it's tricky and requires machining the stock damper.

well what i cant understand is why even bother with porting the heads + cam for 420hp if he can build a cam only motor to 450. with just a cam.. just get the cam, and tuning. I take it we talking tens of thousands of dollars re-working the stock bottom end?
stock compression.. thats amazing!! do you still run race gas or 93 heh.
lemme know if you want an east coast driver with a six speed formula!

I saw Als car at Indy this year. I took a few pics of it. I will scan and post them soon, its an interesting setup. The rear suspension is unreal. The engine compartment looks bare.

Where in the hell they get that number from? Must be a phony spec. At first I thought maybe that was a "dry" weight.. but no oil don't weight that much.

I've met Al Corda a few times as I go to the races a few times a year. He was a Mopar guy for yearrrrssss....I went to U.S.Nationals with LS1ForFun and he took pics of the engine so we have them.
The cars have to run no less than 150lbs less than shipping weight. Adding things for racing which adds weight but taking it away somewhere else.
They can change very little in the engine and if they do with OEM parts. Any aftermarket steel valve permited but must retain stock head, stem diameters and seat angles. Valve diameter can be +.005 or -.015 from specs. Any parts that are replaced must have the same weight as stock. Engine must remain in stock location.
They have to run the full interior with the exception of the rear seats, but it has to be carpeted or upolstered.
They use the Holly System. All Laptop.
All for the Stock Guys I have met won't tell much about their setup. I kept asking Al what to do and he laughs and says "Put Nitrous on it"
One thing I don't understand about NHRA Stock Eliminator is if you run a 98 it can not have an LS1. They require an LT1 in that year. I have asked the F-body racers to find out why and they don't know?? Just a mystery.....
Grab an NHRA rule book.... it is amazing what they do.

Yeah the thing about 98s running LT1s really confuses me. I also found a 99 Firebird that ran in Super Stock with a 307 Olds
I'd say Al's done some suspension reseach He does have a masters in business and a degree in mechanical engineering as well.

GM made just enough 98 cars with LT1's to make them legal for Stock Eliminator. The number use to be 50. Woodrow Josey ran a 98 with a LT1 but I think he now runs a LS1.

Post some pics, please. Last time I saw the car, it was at the rained out nationals at the Texas Motorplex and the car was in the trailer (closed up).

My good gearhead buddy Beth is not too fond of me posting these but what the heck, inquiring minds want to know!!!!!!!! She was having a conniption while we were in the pits and I was snapping pictures, LOL. But hey, the hood was up and noone was around. I have no idea what most of the mods are externally anyway.
I will take the page down if requested from Al or his engine builder. Enjoy!!!!!!!!

Those coil packs are Holley specific that are needed to use with the Commander 950 programmable engine system
that thing in the corner that you say you dont have i believe looks like a data logger system
