[quote]Now if I can just find some GOOD straps to use as hold downs for the pepper all will be good. Wal-mart has some 3000 pounders for 24.99 (2 pak). Will two of them be ok? They dont recommend using them for anything larger than a 4 wheeler. (1/3 rating or 800 pounds) Would 4 of them be ok? Or does someone make a strap specifically for this particular application? Anyone know or have any ideas?

No, I would not get those - wouldn't even consider it. Find a 'Farm and Fleet' or 'Northern Equipment' or some other similar store that sells tools, small machinery, trailer equipment, etc. You should be able to get racheting tie downs that are made specifically for cars. Here's a link to what I have: Car Tiedowns from Northern.

Failing that, you can get some heavy-duty 'generic' tie downs that have the same load, but will work just fine. The only real difference is in the type of hook they have, and the length of the strap. Also, I would highly recommend axle straps for the rear.

I have 2 regular tie downs for the rear (used with the axle straps), and two of the car type for the front (easier to hook into the K-member.

Good luck.

Thank you BOB!
Man, I am glad I did not purchase those Wal-mart straps. So i need 10000 pound straps. Four of them. And some axle straps for the rear. I'll try and find them in the A.M.

I sure dont want to lose the pepper off the trailer somewhere between here and San Antonio!

Again, thanks for the info.(sincerely)

Dont buy cheap-*** straps, but at the same time dont have a panic attack if you cant find exactly what you're looking for. People hauled cars for many many years without straps. Still got the e-brake on the car, set it no matter how you tie it down. If you cant get any good straps try and beg/borrow/steal a chain and a chain binder for that one trip.

Funny, from my point of view you're the moron. Your inability to make a comprehensive argument is surpassed only by the ludicrousness of your claims. Like your 98TA being worth $26,000. Like the numerous factual discrepancies John called you on. Like the fact that your car is significantly slower than others with the same level of mods.

[quote]
Hey ****-stick, just because I don't want to gut a $26,000.00 car to prove a point, doesn't mean I don't have *****.

Funny I see a direct relationship. Let's take a quick survey. Who thinks TIM98 doesn't have the ***** to do what it takes to make his TA fast? Who thinks he is now crying sour grapes to cover up the inadequacy of his own car? Get an implant already or something man this is getting pretty sad.

John I found the big straps at a Lowes. I'm sure home depot has them too. Each one can support the weight of the car individually. I use all 4 straps for one main reason. First time I loaded the car on the trailer with the straps, and got out on the highway, A real dumbass driver pulled right out in front of me, I had to hit the brakes really hard! Thank god we were in the big truck, If I had been in the Avalanche I feel pretty sure there would have been an accident... either me hitting the dumbass or the trailer coming around.

In any event...the formula didn't budge an inch on the trailer.

Let's see if I can penetrate you basketball sized, air-filled head. In October of 1998 I bought my 1998 TA for $26,000.00. What part of that don't you understand? Go ask mommy, maybe she can kiss it and make it all better.
When did I call my car fast? NEVER. Matter of fact, I even SAID it was a fat-***, slow-*** TA. There again, get mommy to kiss it for ya.
NUMEROUS discrepancies? Hmmmmm I remember 1. The air bag. And I corrected myself.

No, Terry, it should read, "Who thinks Tim98TA doesn't have the *****, to gut his car to make it a few tenths faster?" I'll be the first to throw my hand up on that. Sorry, here again, I say, I like my car as it is.
Crying? Far from it.

Terry, you are SUCH a WELL respected member of this board.

Oh damn, I forgot one thing. If that POS ~'94 Z you were trying to pawn off on someone was worth what YOU were TRYING to sell it for, then my TA is worth about $50,000.00.

People that know me know that I will tell you exactly what is on my mind, good or bad. I don't come to these boards to kiss *** and leg hump. If I see something that looks foul, I'll speak up. If I feel I'm right, I'll stick to my point. Some people want to be *** kissers so they can be well liked. Sorry, that's not me.

Is John's car fast? Yes, Very. Is he divulging everything about it? I believe not. John has gone to great lengths to make it fast. He DOES have a great combo, but, there is more there than meets the eye. This isn't my first rodeo around race cars, believe me.

I'll tell you why John is a genious. With out ever winning a race or entering his car in any compitition that I know of he has become a national celebrity . Is that genius or does it reflect the state of mind of the people that put him on that pedestal.

That's my thought for the day.

Tim, what is your deal with John? Do you have some sort of inferiority complex about his car being faster than yours? Give the man credit where credit is due.

I can personally vouch for everything he has done or not done to his car. He is not lying or hiding anything. Come see for yourself sometime if you have that many doubts and it bothers you so much.

As far as your comment above in your profile. I'll come get some! The question for you is this. Do you want some of ME?!?!?! We can meet anytime you want at HRP and bet a little money on the outcome to make it interesting. Where do you live?

Come to HRP and you can answer a lot of your own questions about John's car yourself and also answer a challenge to your car at the same time. You game?

I must just have a car with some hidden lead in it.Damm factory must have put some lead inside the subframes or something.I have heard some of the workers at the factories play a little game like this knowing full well guys plan on trying to lighten up the cars. Guess I'll have to start cutting this sucker open to find that lead!
I had removed ,
swaybar and brackets
both bumpers!
pass side airbag,
AC,
p.s.
egr and air pump,
Cruise,
sound deadening,
heat shields,
rear seat and belts
probably a bunch of other crap I forgot about.
All of that was probably around 250lbs.
I added back 80lbs for a 5pt harness and rollbar.Another 5 or so for a loop.
My car was coming in at around 3300 then.I could see another 80lbs with lightweight parts but that's it without a total gut job!
It was 3465lbs stock with no gas.Add 30lbs for gas maybe.
I am 185lbs.
So the best I could get was just under a 3500lb race weight.

I could have pulled another 45lbs if I took out the passenger seat but that looked so horrible I never did it.

Anyhow, I put everything back in my car now except AC and pass airbag and just added HP
But to be Honest the only thing that really makes Raughammer a genious is the 1.3+ 60's on a stock rear!
That's witchcraft!

Hahahahahahaha!

-just thought this thread was kinda fun-E

PS, you guys might have missed it, but John said his car weighed 3000 lbs. NOT his raceweight. He weighs about 190 lbs I'm guessing. That is closer to 3200 lbs raceweight, with all that stuff removed/replaced. Why is that so hard to understand?

This car is a base-model hardtop Z with NO options at all. No power anything, no foglights, etc... lighter than a 1LE. He has almost anything not useful removed from the car, lighter wheels, racing seats, chromoly suspension, etc etc...

I've got a stripper 1LE, it was around 3340 stock. Difference in a 1LE and a stripper Z is like 7 lbs isn't it? So a basic Z hardtop is over 100 lbs lighter than your car to start with. I can see the 3000 lbs car weight. Why? Because my car is about 3200-3210 on 16" alloys with most of the stock interior, all speakers, radio, heater, air, PS, air pump and EGR, stock K member, etc.

J.
