Default Front/Rear Afco Shock settings

Ok fellas , I'm bout to start making test hits with my whole new setup finally , ride height , dragbar , TA is all setup , I'm wanting some good initial settings for compression & rebound for front and rears . Car is roughly 3250 lbs with me in it , Six speed , 4.56 gears and running a MT 28x10.5 stiffwall slick , car is making around 560 to the wheels

I would start with the rear at 8 from full stiff on compression and 8 from full soft on extension, front I would put 10 from full stiff on compression and same for extension, and see what that gets you.

12-13 lbs of air in the rear tires.

what springs do you have on the shocks, not that I would change what I suggested.

I would do what JL said, but try full loose on extension at first for the fronts.

I would rather start full tight personally. If you got a car with a lot of horsepower and super tight track (sticky), its going to want to go to the rear bumper like the video below.

Was really cool at first, but cost a lot of money to fix!

I definitely would not go full loose anywhere that's a recipe for disaster especially just starting out with a new setup.

To each their own. My car was not able to do a large enough wheelstand to hurt the car until it made 931whp. It was on full loose all the way up to that point. It also sixty foots in the mid 1.2's. So in my experience, I doubt the OP is going to do a bumper stand with 560whp at his weight. However, I have seen tons of cars around his power level, that don't get enough weight transfer, and the front shocks pull the front of the car back down to unload the tires and induce spin. This would be especially a problem with manual setups. It is very popular for manual trans guys to run 90/10 shocks on the front, which is essentially a full loose shock.

Transam69230, your car is no comparison to the OP, and neither is mine. Apples to Oranges. That would be like me suggesting to the OP that he needs to stretch his wheelbase 20" because his car could become unstable when he traps over 220mph in the quarter.

Do u guys suggest running front travel limiters ? Will it help tote the front wheels up for weight transfer , I'll be leaving off a 2step from 5K or more

Travel limiters work but I would not add them until you are at full stiff on extension.

I would stiffen the compression before loosening the extension that far, the unloading a stick car will have issues with the car u loading this will help stop the nose from dropping g enough to unload.

I'm not saying full loose can't work but starting off there is not a good idea, if the car wants to come up at all that's going to really let it.

Afco recommends shocks to be full soft on cars slower than 9.90... just sayin'

Good thread. Just bought a set of these. Had Vikings before so should be cool to see the difference.
