Default Burnout box crowding

I've been in the go fast game for quite a while now....ever since I could drive really. One thing that I'm noticing in most racing videos I see nowadays is weird /irritating to me. And that is, 20-25 people standing around the burnout box, while 2-3 people holding the car.....which is retarded dangerous btw...I can't EVER recall seeing this foiliness back in the day. Am I just turning into the old guy.....or does anyone else notice this?

over the years racing occasionally myself (30+) and watching my uncles race before that (40+) there always seemed to be the occasional car that needed a guy or 2 leaning on the 1/4 panel to keep it from kicking sideways doing its burnout but other than that in my opinion nobody should be around the car , stuff can grenade and hurt someone.

Now I guess I am the crotchety old man too lol

At some places, it has even gotten bad at Test and Tune. I don't like it because I don't want to dent my car if I hit somebody.

Glad to know I'm not the only one that feels this way. I'm just waiting on the day for one of these idiots to get ran over....or a wheel come off and get one of em. Maybe then we will go back to the way it was.

Going to feel real good when they get run over. Seems to be the more outlaw/grudge/radial races.

The track management should take care of it, but they don't. You would think as high as insurance is these days they would do something about it.
Hell, I try to run over them, when I pull to the starting lane, if there in my way.

Now this post lets me know that there is hope for you yet my friend.

Yes, these people are complete retards. I have bitched about it as well for a few years now. I work on cars with 1000hp to well over 3000hp and have seen a few things happen on the line. From rods being thrown to the wall to tires exploding during a burnout. I stand out front to line up the burnout and staging spot. At the launch I stand behind and to the side of the car to watch how it leaves. But I have a purpose there.

And for holding the car straight, that's bullshit. Most cars will not move sideways if the driver knows what he is doing. Its tension on the steering wheel that causes this most of the time.

Yes, the tracks should be running all of these idiots off the line.

I see this in videos all the time, and it's so stupid. So glad my track won't allow it.

I've never understood the purpose of standing there if your trying to watch a race. The grandstands have a much better view. I guess people want to pretend they're crew chiefing or something.

Either way I think it's stupid, it looks stupid, and it's dangerous. You won't catch me standing beside a high hp car.

Through the years I've seen a couple cars leave the starting line but in reverse. Let these people load up the burn out box area to help catch the cars! I don't even like pulling into the box area with a car 40 feet in front of me.

I watched a bullet muffler come off and roll under the tire, shot out like a rocket and hit a guy in the ankles and flipped him onto his head. Alabama International Raceway, used to be quite the scene out there years ago every weekend.

I forgot about that reverse issue. The Promod I used to work on had a new driver that was an ex Nitro Funny car driver and he somehow had it in reverse when he launched. Blown Alky 3000+ HP engine at 5k leaving the line in reverse shocked a lot of us. LOL Glad I wasn't right behind him. But he did catch it really fast.
