When exactly is cage required
#41
In the defense of the OP, a little anyway. He did state that the track days are behind him and this is just a fun street car now. So, IF the car is only street driven and this isn't a street RACE car, then I wouldn't worry about the cage either. But If it is raced at all and is fast enough, street or track, yes get a cage. But I also do not condone street racing unless its done like the outlaw TV guys were it is a closed street with no way of harming the general public.

Then head home.

Ok, last post I will be making regarding this subject. The car does indeed make 9 second power, but doesn't necessarily mean that it will. I see it all the time...usually vipers that make crazy dyno power, but can't seem to break out of the 10s. This car of mine will see the track maybe twice during my ownership, and there is NO way I'm going to hack up a true SS and race car the thing out for two possible outings. The car is a street car first and foremost, and the reason I say two possible outings, is because I don't have the time OR desire to hang out at the track all the time like I used to...AND i just want to see what the car is capable of, and mph is a pretty good indicator of what the car can really do. So, if im a person that "cares about no one except myself " because I won't cage a car out for a couple of outings, then so be it....think what you will. Not that it really matters, but I just wonder how many of these idiots are down with street racing.....but are all the while jumping up and down screaming safety first!

Our local tracks dont care for street cars. Their take is we drive them on the street daily with no cage and I know I consider the strip a hell of a lot safer then the street and they likely do too. Im a firm believer that there are far less variables at the track, and a much better prepped surface. My car at 11.0 will.not ever get a cage, for the reasons stated above and the fact that it is still driven on the street (meaning I dont wanna plow my noggin into a cage with no helmet during a wreck). When the car gets to say 10.0 I will surely reconsider that decision then. Still may opt to not install one, I will have to weigh my options and future plans at that point. And, Ive driven this car from stock, learning it as got faster. I also have a shoe box full of time slips. My car is also very stable and hooks every pass, so those things weigh in on my decision.

Maybe you should go back and read your own posts. Pretty good clues as to why fellow racers feel the way they do, and have said the things that have been said. The sad thing is, that we have all seen this type of behavior. And I can't speak for anyone else. But I'm freakin sick of waiting for them at the track for any reason. A rookie in a 9 second car, trying to be a hero on his first pass don't mix. God help everyone there.

Another option would be to skip the dragstrip altogether since you don't care about Et. Out here in Arizona they hold top speed runs at local municipal airport 4 times a year. Those event don't care at all about track safety stuff, a helmet and your good. Check around see if you have any 1/4-1/2mi speed events

Okay. Then I don't mean to be a wise guy or anything but, is this car even fast enough to need a cage?

Thought you said you have never been to the track, with this car? How would you know how fast it is, in the quarter? If it is 800hp to the wheels. Then good luck getting it to the ground, with that set up. Or is this 800 like power, that you saw on a you tube video? Just asking, because you got me with the 9 second deal.
