Default How can I slow my car down?

I'm in a situation where I need at least a rollbar. Last year toward the end of the season I ran 11.2x on motor with a transmission that just went to hell as soon as it hit 2nd gear. I hoping with the new trans and converter it'll run faster but I've spent all the time and money I had available over the winter making repairs. I just can't put in a proper Rollbar or cage at this point.

Normally the track doesn't care at a test and tune. I don't think I'll catch **** unless I spray it and go bottom 10s or faster. But to bracket race I'm going to have to slow the car down until I get all the safety equipment.

My thought was to pull timing as I would if I were spraying the car and possibly set the shift points earlier. Is there a point where I'd pull too much timing and cause issues or is there a better way to go about it? I'm looking at needing to slow it 5 tenths I think.

Unfortunately you gotta pay to play. I would just lay off the drag racing until you can afford a bar.

If you want to slow it down don't run the nitrous, leave it tuned for it, and you could put a set screw in the throttle body lever with a set screw stopping it from opening all the way.

That would slow it as much as you wamt

Simple. You can lower shift points or do what looks of great bracket racers do. Pick a spot on the track and drop off the throttle. I've raced and let off at the 1000ft mark as a example or ive used light poles along the track. Its also a great way to keep some tenths in your pocket if you need to get back in it

same as above 2 guys but applied differently , pull timing and drop shift points to consistently hit your number since your bracket racing it but keep spray active for if you screw up your pass and need to make up track

Thanks fellas. I'll see what it runs and mess with timing and shift points. I've never been good at top end games but with practice this car could really screw with people.

throttle stop? bolt under the gas pedal? Early shift points is great, shift at 1800 rpm bet you dont go anywhere.

Hahaha! That is good ****! I thought it was funny that all of these people trying to make their car faster, and you make a post about how can you make your car slower. But to answer your question, the most consistent way to accomplish your goal is to put some sandbags or bolt down some lead in your trunk. it will hook better and slow the car down. Win win.

It's a temporary situation. I'm kind of to the point where I need to decide if I want to continue to push the car and deal with chassis cert, NHRA license, and all the other bells and whistles I'd need to run single digits. I'm going to try and hit 9s this weekend. After that I'm going into bracket mode for the season. It's been a while since I've been able to race whenever I want.

I hear ya. I had to go through the same issue. I would recommend just going to the track and getting the 9 second pass first, getting kicked out, and then now you know what you need to do. Because let me tell you, if you have a car that runs 9.95-10.10, it can sometimes be dificult to get your license if you know what I mean.

Bigger tires? Change gear ratio? Take some timing out?
