Default West Coast Shootout Results

There was a decent turnout for the event, but the weather was horrible! Temps in the 80s-90s all day, and the track was not prepped. I was on 28" ET streets.

I was down around 1.5-2mph all day, with my best run being 11.49@118 1.65 60' time. I was running well enough to win 2nd place in the "MAX NA" heads up class (nice trophy and a little money).

Scott Janzer ran a best of 11.14@120 1.55 60' (???), and was lucky I red lighted first in the finals. He hit the red light about .002 after I did...

It was good seeing all the Norcal, Vegas, and lurkers as the event. Next year lets have it during the winter.

The event was alot of fun, even if I wimped out and only made one pass down the track. I had a blast and it was great meeting some of the people that frequent this board (even you Terry ).

DA was NOT 3300 feet
More like 1800 to 2400 above depending on what elevation that track is.

Still horrible weather though.
Pretty good Ets for such bad air.

I will eat my taunts pointed at Terry and Scott as I pussed out of the C2 class and went into bracket instead. Not that bracket was any easier, I just could not get the converter to lock up at all.
In any case Scott's car was awesome.
I don't know how much weight he shaved, but with the conditions the way they were, he was flying.
Big congrats to him!
It was cool putting faces to all of the screen names.
MJ454, Burger, Jantzer, F8LPONY, and everyone else out there were all really cool.
If he or anyone that knows him reads this:
TOM COSTELLO ROCKS!
He saved our *** with all of his and his friends help at the end of the meet.
Thanks big time Tom.

Justin and his gang, hopefully I'll hook up with you guys in the near future for a Sacramento run.

For everyone that was interested it turns out that our friend's car, which was rearended on the trailer, is probably totalled.
The frame is bent pretty good, t-tops popped off on their own and the car has shifted about 2.5 inches on the backend.
He is doing well though, just bummed.
Congrats to all the winners!

After last week, I don't put any stock in what people post as DA's. JS's new weather station varied by more than 1000 feet from the internet accessible stations (military)

So now if someone says the DA was 800 feet, from any source, I know it could be 1800 or -200. With that accuracy, who cares? Hope people didn't pay a lot for these things.............

This was at Formosa(?) Raceway? Their website states they are at 635'ASL not 1500 and the history from the Bakerfield weather station computes to a DA of +1450 at 10am to a +2950 at 6pm. Not that I really care but lets get the facts straight. I think the times posted above are great for the weather, I'm use to MINUS 2950

Running at a track that is 2200' above sea level and hot most all the time, I get used to bad times.
But this was the worst track conditions I've seen this year, it was just plain hot, humid, and really slippery.
It could have been worse though, it could've been rained out.

I was running quicker at 6pm than I was at 11am there, for what its worth. Scott has about 200#s on me. I think its 388 time.

I had a great time! It's nice to meet everybody and get some faces with the screen names. Sometimes on the internet you can't judge personality and it's easy for comments to come across the wrong way. Right off the bat I was approached with "are you the cocky guy on the internet?"...luckily Terry Burger was standing next to me so I said "no that's him there!"

I'm also very sorry to hear about (Brandon) Transam2002's accident on the way to the track. It's very unfortunate and despite of everything cool and fun that took place at the event, the most important thing is that Brandon is OK and everyone made it home safe.

I was very pleased with the way the car was running. The lockup switch quit working after my first 3 passes and didn't use it on my best run. And everybody was complaining about traction....I'm just smiling because I was cutting mid 1.5X's all day with only 2000rpm brake stall. Anyhow, the car has really been consistent and today was no exception. I don't have all of my slips in front of me, but as I recall all of the runs but one was between 11.14 & 11.21.

11.55 (hal fronts still set at 12!) 1.7 60ft.
11.21
11.17 @ 120.88
11.14 @ 119.77 1.54 60ft. No Lockup Switch
11.18 ***New best 1/8 MPH 98!***
11.17
11.20
11.20 @ 120.83

It's too bad my Autotap program won't let me log runs. I was hoping to dial it in with the MAFT. But, I DID WIN the Max Normally Aspirated class! It sure made it worth the 10hour drive. And Terry your RT .46X, mine .48X.

Dave (SSValet):

Thanks for the props. It was nice meeting you. We'll have to meet up in Sacramento and run in some GOOD weather.

Regarding DA's, they have actually been a good indicator thus far of what I would run at sea level. A few months back I ran 11.73 @ 115 at 3500 ft or so and ran 11.20 @ 120MPH a week later at a sea level track. The DA corrected time was REAL close to what I ran.

From wundergound.com I got the following data of bakersfield (the time frame when I made most of my passes & best)

2:00 Temp 82 Baro 30.01 53.1 Dew DA: 2328
4:00 Temp 86 Baro 29.95 51.8 Dew DA: 2635
6:00 Temp 84.2 Baro 29.95 51.8 Dew DA: 2524

I also calculated the DA from 2 different sites, one using the dew point, the other humidity and they were nearly identical.

Using the NHRA ET/MPH Calculator using 2300ft., my 11.14 @ 119.77 run would have been an 10.84 @ 122.38 at sea level. I like to use these numbers to compare MY runs only. But I'll get some sea level numbers soon enough.

Terry I have a new temporary nickname for you instead of "terrible terry".....how about "2 Spot Terry!" LOL! Don't be doctoring up your Trophy.

LOL

It was a blast hearing all the whispering when Scott and Terry lined up. I think there was more money won on bets than Scott won for 1st place C2!

It was great meeting all of you and I just hope that next year we will be a little more organized (wasnt too bad) and have some better conditions. And of course have MY car at the event so I can at least compete!

Let us know when you guys plan to come to Sac for some real ET's and we'll all hook up.

Fun day AT the track - bad day ON the track.

Terry, you didn't need the bottle, just to hook it up a little better.

I know everyone is talking about how bad the track was prep & temp. etc. What was everyone's 60ft's and how did your 60ft. & ET compare to what you normally run?

Surprisingly I actually out 60'd the C4 car that beat me in king of the hill. And I have several videos of the big slick cars slipping around. I'm hoping I just have the car setup good now and 1.4X's are a real possibility. I know my local track doesn't do much for prep so I need to have the car dialed to be competitive in brackets.

Anybody interested in meeting up in Sac this friday night & possibly saturday? Looking at our local track schedule, I won't have another weekend off for a couple months.

Sweet!

FWIW, here in Chicago we have a lot of 2000+ DA days that we race on...

What's your raceweight?

I am sure impressed with all the low 11 second 346ci guys!

I'm not sure about the raceweight, but I'm guessing 3200. We had to run with the passenger seat in, so that was 23lbs that I'm not used to. But I know I lost 100+ since my last runs. Unfortunately there wasn't a scale at the track.

PSJ:

What has been your experience with racing in 2000+ DA's compared to near sea-level?
