According to "Best of tech--Hot ls1 engine tech" magazine, the fastest cam-only car is a z28 owned by Sean Mangan that runs a 10.93 at 124.96. Damn. Thats quick for cam only. The 2890 pound race weight helps a bunch, lol. Kickass car.

jason's 99TA from Thunder racing has the record right now. 10.7 @ 128.x - extremely fast. there are a couple of 10 second cam only cars and the rest are substantially slower.

That 2890 is not race weight it's curb weight. 01-Z has gone 10.77@ 125 at 3050 race weight. Same day Jason's 6sp car that weights 200lbs more went 3mph faster than 01-Z with a Th400 and a trans brake. You do the math on who realy has the fastest REAL CAM ONLY car.

Paul, Would ya pick her up already. She sure does look nice Bro.

Jason has the record.

I have gone 10.91 with a 7 @ 123 in 90 degree Texas heat.

I ran the numbers to see what I would have run at the N VS S race and they came out to 10.71 with a 7.

I love bench racing. Don't ya'll?

I think the term "cam-only", is now being stretched a little more than what it was at first.

Now you can have a non-stock bottom_end,non factory transmission with some even running a transbrake. And don't try telling me a transbrake does not help,( We just picked up a 4-link dragster, and that **** leaves alot harder on the transbrake, then any other way.)

We still have gone the fastest, with stock heads (never off the motor), stock tranny. The old school way you might say.

My .02…

This may ruffle some feathers, so don't take it too personal.

So Jason went 10.75 with stock bottom end parts, stock heads, and a T-56 tranny and that doesn't count.

It counts in my book Paul! Sure the rebuilt bottom helps a bit but the cam still makes it power!

The shortblock has been rebuilt, but still has stock pistons/rods/crank, with JE rings, Federal Mogul bearings, and ARP rod bolts/main studs.
The weak link in the T1 (production roadrace) cars has been the timing chain and the rod bolts. Upgrading the rod bolts has allowed them to spin the engine faster.

But since the "cam only" title is not sharply defined, I'd say it's QUICKER THAN THE A4's!!! And that's all that matters...

Not all bottom ends last forever. Especially not when you spin them 7K.

No because he didn't use stock wheels.

Roger, can't compare a 4 link dragster to any door car let alone a stock style suspension 4th gen fbody. There are too many factors to take into consideration to say that a transbrake will always leave harder than a non transbrake transmission.

As a matter of fact my car cuts the same exact 60' foot regardless if I use the transbrake or the footbrake. I bracket race footbrake class every weekend and the only time I ever use my transbrake is when I'm racing a pro tree in heads up or NHRA Super Street for RT's.

Anyway I saw all of Jasons runs on Saturday and that boy was a shifting ****.

I didn't make a single pass off of the transbrake at NvS because the car 60's better off of the foot brake. This is mainly do to not having the correct converter in the car for the race but that'll change real soon. I would rather leave off of the transbrake for better reation times but ET counts as well.

If your car does not 60 ft. better on a transbrake, then I say it is not set up correctly.

I knew this would ruffle some feathers.

I think Roger has a good point. I guess it depends on how you define "cam only". Two years ago if someone said cam only, it pretty much ment a full bolt on car with a cam. No pulling the heads and doing valve jobs,no reduilt short blocks, no turbo 350's with T-brakes, etc.

The problem is our F-bodys are getting old, and the cams are really to large to run safely in a completly stock motor(includind rod bolts).

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I will always have more respct for a "cam only" car as I define it.
