tbone4232 ,your joking right? Car and Driver got a 12.9 out of the 03 Cobra but they are also the same guys that got like a 13.8 out of a Camaro SS and a 13.1 out of a Z06. They dont power shift and I am sure they got a non-broken in motor. It is blown but at 8psi. Stcok they should and did(MM&FF magazine tested)run mid 12's in the 1/4. With just a lightning blower pulley it ran a 12.1. As stated many times before ,this Cobra deserves props.

I think Kman hit the nail on the head. Regardless of the bogus #'s C&D runs (as proven by their LS1 tests)....you can bet that a factory blown engine is leaving A LOT of HP on the table. If it's anything like my Lightning (which it is) All it takes is a chip/pulley/K&N and I GUARANTEE it'll drop .7 of the stock #'s. Can you say 11's without even removing the valvecovers. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

yha but whos gunna mod a new cobra? your not going to see a lot of them on the road that people want to mod, 40000 is alot to start trinking with. i tell you if i see a new one and someone wants to race with it ill run them, most likley it will be a old man with a stock car, everyone has new mustangs becouse of the price , i could have got a 2000 gt with 10000 miles for the same price i got my 98 z28 with 60000 miles, i just dont think that its all its piped up to be, after all it is ford, i guess we will see, ford is cheap and lots of people go for cheap, i would rather spend the extra bucks and get a z06, after you cant say that a z06 is 10x better then any car evermade...

My grandmother can drive better than Car and Driver. If they went 12.9 then the car is good for mid 12s. MM&FF went 12.67. Johnny Hunkins editor of GM high tech perf. said the car went 12.05 at 116 on radials with a pulley and airbox. That's impressive who cares that it's Ford. At least it is an American car.

lol....who would mod a new cobra?? Well I will be buying something new about this time next year and it'll probably be a cobra. You can bet it will have more boost, exhaust work and tires the same week....also at the track the week I get it.

Heck...I have never been brand loyal. I just buy the fastest thing I can afford. I can't afford a zo6 so looks like the stang will get the nod unless I get a used zo6. Just don't like racin a manual car. Did that for years when I raced stangs...this a4/big converter has spoiled me.

That car is so overated for what it has and the price on it.Lets see I can buy a vette for that much and look pimper and spend a few dollarsand be faster.Or buy an fbody for half the price or even a quarter and slap a bottle on my stock car and run just as good if not better than the slutstang,Ford gets on my nerves.They make these bad *** looking cars that dont perform the way they say they will.yeah it will run low 12s or high 11s with mods correct.That 40,000 would be better spent on a 91 or so lx coupe with weight reduction a big motor and a big bottle etc...

I'm glad Ford is bringing this car out, it'll force GM to make sure the 2004 Camaro has some serious power behind it. Who knows, maybe we'll see a 2004 LS6 Camaro!

Sure you could buy a 91 Lx coupe and go mega-fast for $40K....but with the New Cobra you can run 11's with only minimal mods and still have a warranty.

As far as overrated....we'll see. Remember, these cars are complete with a fully forged bottom end from the factory. That's a hell'uva lot more than the GN's came with, and you can see where they are today. Do you think Mustang owners are any less resourceful at making power? Do realize the enormous # of Mustang tuners there are in the world? These guys are SALIVATING at the chance to start tweaking on these things.

I don't expect close minded, "brand-washed", GM owners to like the new Cobra....but jeez, you have to see it's incredible potential. Even a fukin' idiot can recognize what this car can be capable of after a year or so.

FWIW....Evan Smith (MM&FF, also tests for GMHTP) has already gone 12.0 @ 118 mph with nothing more than a take-off lightning pulley. About $10....tops. Stock tires, stock exhaust, stock everything else. Think about it. No, its not cheap...perhaps 2-3 grand more (MSRP) than a 02 WS6.

I am gonna find out. I think the new cobra with just bolt ons will go low 11's easy. I cant get one untill the fall due to demand (A plan) but I bet with a custom chip (dyno tuned), maf sensor,throttle body, 12-13lb pulley, long tubes, cat-back, 4.10's and slicks, drag suspension,blah,blah, it will be as fast or faster than my bolt-on formula which is the 2nd quickest on this board(11.41). I wouldn't talk **** about it untill you see what it can do and trust me, people will mod the crap out of them. They are still 15k or 19k less with A or D plan than a Z06 and with 15k, I could get one in the 9's I'm sure. The build up would include ported heads, cams,extrude hone lower intake,Injectors, max out the blower, 100-125 shot,custom pistons, loose 300-400 lbs, ditch accessories, solid axle,C-4 trans,etc. I'm glad Ford built it, now like was said above, maybe GM will ls6 the new camaro. That would be sweet.

Blackbird, I agree totally. A couple months ago I even made a prediction (either on this board or another) that eventually one would run 10s with just bolt ons. I'll still stand by that too.

People mod brand new Porsche Turbos and Ferraris, of course people are going to mod the new Cobra. Wake up out of LS1-Dreamland.

I think the new Mach 1 will be the car to beat on the streets though, as they will be substantially cheaper and more people will own and mod them, IMO. Available with auto or manual as well, and we all know how a high stall converter will wake up a car.

Good point on the mach. It would be a perfect candidate for a 15lb T-trim and all the other goodies. Hey, its got the solid axle also. Things that make you go HMMMMM.
