My Stock Internal A4 buid thread...10's???
So my dad and I pushed my maroon car and got the 6 speed stock internal record. I’m playing with my black auto these days and would love to get it in the 10s stock internal.
(for the Newbz “stock internal” means stock cam, heads, bottom end etc aka not opened/upgraded in any way and of course no power adders of any kind)
In the past it went a best of 11.5 but have some new plans for it. After it ran that, it was returned to stock and stored away for the most part. I have 4 kids now and run a business so the good ol’days feel far behind (back when Ls1tech was the sh*t!)
So I’m going to do an old school build thread. No one cares about these old records anymore but I like pushing towards a goal and would like to run 10s stock internal. This while keeping the car as stock appearing as possible and not doing anything crazy like running nitro etc 😂
The car:
02 Camaro SLP SS 345hp blackwing/GMMG car with 40k miles
Currently the car has a black wing lid, ported stock TB, SLP underdrive pulley and Yank SS3600. Also has the standard weight out of it like backseat, spare tire, bumper supports etc and ran a 12.2 @ 110. Not fast but the DA wasn’t great and still has stock exhaust manifolds/cats 😂
When the car ran an 11.5 it had the same intake setup plus a SSRA and 1 3/4 headers. Stock shocks. Tuned removing codes etc, but no dyno tune and no AFR logging/tuning
The plan for 10s:
Mamo ported Fast 102intake/Tb
4in Chrs1313 pro mod style intake
Meziere electric water pump
Actually tune the car maybe dyno tune, but definitely AFR reading and actually tune it 😂
1 7/8 wrapped headers w/true duals
Vacuum pump
Kmember
A-arms
Drag brakes
and plenty of little things/things I’m forgetting….

But to answer, it currently has 3.42s and Yank 3600. I’m planning on running with that for now although the converter feels tight.
As far as weight that’s what I’m thinking too, but I’m confident it can be done without cutting up the car too much and still stock appearing. Aka I’m not doing a RSM front end or cutting out the ttop area etc but will be sneaking weight out anywhere I can.

I don’t expect to push this car far enough to beat that, but I’d like to get in the 10’s. If I did then I could take 4th or 2-3. 2nd place is 10.86 and 3rd is 10.98

Not much of an update, but i did sell my Weld s71s and built some wood wheel cribs for the upcoming projects.
I really liked the Welds, but they are pretty heavy. I think I can save 40-50lbs switching to Bogarts.
FYI:
Weld s71 rim weights:
Rear 15x10 with MT et street radial 295/55/15 weigh 47lb
Front 15x4 with MT 26x6 sportsman 30.4lb

I ran stock internals with an A4 for a bit and imo the 3600 converter isn’t enough. I’d go at least 4000 maybe 4400 with 4.56s. As you know from personal experience it’s all in the 60’ and that needs to be in the 1.5s. Your rear suspension is key. An anti roll bar made a big difference for me and I was running et streets and could hook anywhere with that comb and stock internals.
Your tire choice is more than enough. I was running a 255 and hooking on the foot brake.
BTW it’s really cool to outrun these new muscle cars with a 20 plus year old stocker. I made a lot of money off coyotes and 392 scat packs. They’d all pull a 1.8-2.2 60’ and then they have to run me down because I was cutting 1.58 60’s.

And yes I agree it’s awesome to remind these guys what these cars used to be. Even as it sits it only has a lid and underdrive pulley/converter and it runs consistent bottom 12s. Which isn’t fast but is fast enough to beat a lot of coyotes etc at the track bc they don’t get traction. Then they ask whats done and it still has stock exhaust etc 😂

Picked up the Bogarts. Plan to swap out the tires for Hoosier drag radials and Goodyear fronts unless someone knows lighter options…
FYI Bogart D10 Rim weights:
Rear 15x10 with M/T et drag 26x10 : 34.4lb
Front 15x4 with MT 26x6 et radial: 21.8lb
Difference:
17.2 front
25.2 rear
42.4lb total savings

Headers going on. Went with 1 7/8s speed engineering stainless headers. Seem to be quite good quality. Newer ones have the velocity spike as well. I weighed the stock manifolds/cats vs the headers for fun. I was surprised with the difference.
Stock manifolds 46.8lbs:
Speed engineering headers 24.6lbs:
total loss: 22.2lbs off the nose

its been a long time since I adjusted it, but I’m pretty sure stock they shift between 5800-6000 and I think mine is 6200.
the stock ls1 springs can’t handle much more then that unfortunately. The stock can doesn’t really make power much higher anyways, but we did see improvement raising a few 100 rpms

Update
buttoned up the electric water pump and pulled the intake.
Lots of parts came in. Mamo fast 102, 102 throttle body, Ls2 injectors, ls2 fuel rail, Hoosier drag radials and lots more. Will get pics.
Here are some of the intake for now.

Repinned the 02 sensors so that I can use the rear 02s for my front 02s and skip the extensions etc.
I followed this write up FYI. Was pretty straight forward and easy to do once I wrapped my head around it.
WRITE-UP Re-Pin 02s for header install
