Default Dry Sump Questions?

Does anybody offer a Dry-Sump pump mount for the LS-1 engines that will mount up without removing the air conditioner. With all the problems I am seeing with the failures of the stock-type oil pumps, I do not want to chance hurting the new engine.

Thanks, Mike

Building a 422-427 using either a re-sleeved O.E.M. block or C5R block with LQ4 HEADS, Holley intake (severely modified) working on a 85-90MM throttle body and set up with the NX SX2 (2-stage) nitrous system. Leaning toward the C5R block at this time since I have read of some issues with liner problems on the re-sleeved blocks. Oh Yes, it will also be a solid roller. To much money in the engine to lose it all over a oil pump failure in my $.02.

i agree. go dry sump.

id get the aluminum LQ9's though. actually, spend the money on LS6's for high lift flow.

i have heard of a few fitment issues with the holley intake too. sheetmetal would be best.

Already got the LQ4 heads (new units from Valve god) and they are in the process of being ported, bigger valve seats, etc. Do not want too much compression so that my wife can drive this thing on the street on pump gas. The N20 should make up for any deficiencies the lack of compression may take away.

So you are going to drop 6K for a block and then run iron heads.

I have the 6.0 truck aluminum heads. After they are done with Titanium valves, guides, seats, springs, retainers, porting, etc. they will be big bucks also so why stop with a $150.00 oil pump

Give Razor performance a call. They make pumps for LPE, katech, ASA, etc. They custom make pumps with whatever mounting you want for pretty cheap. Then the challenge is the pulley size and possible a custom belt.

Gordon ran a dry sump for a little while. You can see parts of it here:

BTW, when I had the dry sump system on my car, it wasn't a true dry sump system "per say" because the pump that was supplied with the kit was a scavenge pump, the kit relyed on the stock oil pump to supply oil to the motor, then the scavenge pump sucked it from the oil pan back to the sump tank.
I removed the A/C (because I never used it anyway), the scavenge pump mounted to the A/C bracket without any modifications.

MIKET@CENTERFORCE,
I have the dry sump kit for sale, if your intrested let me know.

Is there a reason Gordon removed the dry-sump?

It was a neat system to have on the car but I was doing some weight reduction to get my car lighter and the dry sump system was first on the list of things to be removed.
There is nothing wrong with the kit at all.

Thanks Gordon,

I have also considered a wet-sump with a external pump to save some weight over a full blown dry sump with the ability to also pull a vacuum to help the rings seal. Send me PM on what all you have and what you would be interested parting with it for. Thanks for all the input to all.
