Think I have an idea - get both! Or at least, try to get both worlds . . .

Just got a sweet, custom ratchet shifter for my custom A4. Once I go full manual valvebody (soon), I get:
1) Have to shift, both up and down (sorta like manual)
2) Get instantenous shifts (auto)
3) Get torque converter benefits (auto)
4) Actually have to shift the car at the track (sorta like manual), a bit more than stab and steer
5) Can get the experience of a good clutch dump if I added a transbrake

Some things I don't get with the above setup - risk of missing gears a lot less (unlike manual), and cannot use computer to set shift points (unlike most autos). But still a good compromise.

I prefer autos for a few reasons

1. Chicago traffic
2. grab and steer
3. computers are faster than humans and consistent

Though I'd really like a TH400 w/full manual valve body and trans brake ah well... next year

Haven't read this whole thread. Just the last page, and I'll chime in anyway with my .02

I give a lot of respect to the M6 guys. Whether they have a car that rates in the top ET list or not. Their job is so much harder. And yes, it takes a lot more skill. Not necessarily in the shifting (although that's important), but in the launch. The launch is what matters the most. For us A4's, the launch is one of two things. Spin or no spin. For the manual guys, it's a skill that's really hard to perfect.

This thread shouldn't be about who is better. We're all here for the same reason. But in my book, any M6 guy that achieves the same ET as a comparibly equipped A4 gets a big pat on the back. Cause it's way harder.

but here's my opinion. A4 cars run faster most of the time. that's just because of how easy it's too set one up. there are so much auto cars running out there, and so much convertors that prove them self.

But if a manual car owner figuers out the clutch and sets it up right, The auto guys would have too go get a T-Brake too even stand a chance and there would still get the *** handed.

The SAM car is about the only example I could point out in the F-body world, since no one else have gone as far too get a clutch too work. but it proves it by it's 1.29 60ft 99% of that is the clutch.

there's no auto car even close too that. and then we all know after the 60ft the manual cars have the advantage. If it dose not it's not the car it's the driver. Ask all the A4 guys that street race with me and figuer I was on gas going down the track mod for mod.

For every 1 of those I'll show you a bundle with an A4 car on the stock 4L60E and the stock 10-bolt. It doesn't cost over $2,000 to rebuild a 4L60E unless you use a high priced forum vendor like FLP. I'm going to do mine for a few hundred bucks including labor and it will hold 500rwhp no problem. For now, however, it is holding just fine.

The A4 bashing gets a little old around here sometimes. Just because someone is driving one doesn't make the M6 person a better driver.

I'm done now..
