Default Drilling holes in the underside of the SS hood

With the installation of the fast toys ram air the SS hood becomes appearance only. My thought was to drill holes in the air passages in the underside of the hood to cool the engine compartment while drag racing. Any thoughts or comments.

I hate to break it to you, but the SS hood is an appearance mod for all intensive purposes.

Yep, it's an appearance mod from the get-go. I have one and I'll be the first to admit that.

As far as drilling those holes. I honestly don't think you'd ever be able to tell any difference. Might lose a tiny bit of weight though.

What about if the whole under side was removed? Make it like a real scoop, if this was done do you think it would help with cooling enough to justify it?

I think you'll compromise the hood's
stiffness if you take off a whole layer.
And the cooling you get, is only about
10 square inches' flow worth (like, squat)
through the scoop.

If you swiss-cheesed the plenums with a
hole saw you might shave a pound or two
without making the thing all floppy.

Thank you for the imput on this subject. The only reason I mentioned this idea is that on the return track I have noticed when I pop my hood up againsed the safty latch my engine will cool down better on a hot day. I do this during competion when the runs get closer.

Bob,

Where exactly are you located? I'm in Oregon also. I'll probably see you around sometime this year.

A much easier and prolly more effective method to do this is simply remove the weatherstripping along the plastic cowling. This will give you a nice gap at the back of the hood and fuction as a heat extractor.
