Default Why not just use the spare rim(s) for up front?

Why don't people use the spare tire rim as a skinny up front?

If the reason is because the tire, I can always get a skinny tire made for drag racing. The rim we have as a spare is nice because we don't need spacers nor grinding.

One, is the tire. 55mph max speed I believe - so 110mph probably isn't to good for it.

Two, the spare wheel is pretty heavy.

I'm sure there have been more than a few that have thought of this, but I think you're better off with some real drag wheels.

Yea, I know the tire speed limit is a problem but those rims are no where near as heavy as the 17 inch rims.

Does anyone have weight specs of:

stock 17 inch rim
spare rim
general drag rim

I've weighed them.

Stock 17x9 wheel with 275 tire = 51 lbs
Stock 16x8 wheel with 245 tire = 44 lbs
Spare wheel with tire = 32 lbs
Draglite 15x3.5 with 165 tire = 20 lbs

Two spares = 64 lbs
Two draglites = 40 lbs

big difference, and more safe

The track has no tech inspection so it's pretty easy to run whatever rolls <img border="0" alt="[judgement]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_judge.gif" />

Tracks won't allow it.

My buddy did it a few years ago, one pass before they caught on.

Those are not speedrated.

Alot of Mustang guys would run the spares from the 'verts they are aluminum and pretty light. Ghetto, but effective.

didnt realize the 16" wheels were that much lighter than 17".

As far as why no one uses spare skinnies, its because they look <img border="0" alt="[rainbow]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_rainbow.gif" /> .

Besides, its only like 250 for the pair which aint much considering we are all willing to pay 100 bucks for the air lid which is nothing but a piece of plastic.
