Hey Mistah George Coffey got a Q for U
Sup, I woulda called I think I saved all the area codes wrong in my phone.
Your trailer woodblocks told me to say hi, they love it up here but they miss you a lot.
What are your thoughts about Powerglides? I might be able to get a deal on one with a 8" converter, what are the pros/cons? Anyone else feel free to chime in.

Turbo Mustangs run them pretty often. They don't run that much gear or buzz that high.
Hi Terry, where you been, you blow up your motor?

I liked the 'glide, but ended up keeping the TH400 in the car. I think an aftermarket 1.96 planetary in the 2-speed would have been a great all around combo for my car, but the TH400 has it's good points, too...
I think a powerglide would absolutely rule in a big PA car (N2O, turbo, etc). On a heavier N/A car (3200+ raceweight), the 2-speed would probably be more of a hindrance. And although they can be built very relaiably, a powerglide will require more periodic maintenance than a TH400 would (due to the size/number of frictions).
I think a powerglide may work pretty well in your heavier turbo car, but the reliability may become a factor. Converter selection is also more critical with a 2-speed, since you lose a lot of the mechanical gearing advantage of the 3-speed...

BTW, tell the wood blocks I said hello... I'm between trailers right now, so I'm sure they're better off up there.

IMOP Transking builds some of the best converter/Powerglide combo's on the market today..
With the electric upshift once you stage the car in low and release the trans brake the car would shift at whatever RPM you had it programed for..My hands never left the wheel until you turned onto the return road..

Re: Hey Mistah George Coffey got a Q for U
I'm currently runnin' a glide in my '97Z...
....I LOVE IT....
But you are correct, I'm in the process of switching to a solid roller cam to get the RPM into that magic 7000 range that the powerglide seems to need to get through the traps (ran a 10.69 @112mph....car fell on it's face between 900 and 1000 ft..bouncin' off the rev limiter).
