I run 16" GTA wheels at the track with 5.5 backspacing with 10.5 x16 ET STREETS or 255x50x16 BFG with no problem.
I run spacers to use my salad shooters on the street for daily driving and the 300 mile round trip to/from the track each weekend.

I know but I had no choice,they are big but fit exactly like the wheel hub,if I didn't have Strange axles and 3" bolts could not do it.
Once my T56 swap sells I plan on picking up some prostars 2 for the street 2 for the track!!!

Interesting point on the narrowed rear tubes vs. street trim.
Is it possible to run the 2" narrow, and in street trim use a wide and properly bs'd rim that would set the rim more outside like the factory spacing had? e.g. use a 18x10 vette like rim but with less backspacing (or would it be less bs?) putting it closer to the outside of the body and not hugging the wheel well.

2" each side here. 15x8.5 with 5"bs. I run a 28x10.5 et Drag at the track. And squeeze a 28x12.50 sportsman pro in there for the street.
Here is a pic with the sportsman Pros.
Had to roll the lips to put that tire on there. No problems with the 28x10.5 slicks.
Inner fender will need some massaging.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead a decade later but, on a 96 TA, would it be possible to narrow my rear 2-2.5" with (4-5" backspacing for example) on a 18" wheelwithout having to mini tub? Looking to do a street tire not a drag tire in 335.
Crossing fingers on this one. I've just been reading all the recent posts on tubbing and it looks like it just more chunk of change. That is, until I searched and read this thread.

I have our Fab 9 narrowed 3" per side. Partial mini tub, QA1 rear springs, Wolfe adjustors, Strange brakes, 15x10 Alumistar with 5" BS, 29.5x10.50 ET Drag. I need to clearance the front a bit but it will fit.

Steve, thanks for those pics, they helped me clear up what it means to clearance the front that the others were talking about.
Does anybody have pics of how extensive a BFH job was necessary on the bumpstop area?
I think the non-mini-tubbed setup is for me. I'll narrow the rear only 2" and do the appropriate backspaced wheels (on an 18" wheel) from there.

Here is a photo of mine, I went with a full tub to be able to run a tall/wide tire and tuck it in as well as lower the car a good amount, if you notice a lot of the cars that are mini tubbed don't really tuck the tire much and the stance of the front of the car is usually a lot lower than the rear.
Here is a photo of a 275 60 15 on a 15x8 with 3" back space using a 3rd gen rear end (3" narrower than a 4th gen) is on the car now to give you an idea how much room is left to go wider and taller.
I have about 7.5" above the tire and almost 6" on the inside of the tire, obviously I haven't got my new rear or rims and tires yet, but it's just to give you an idea.
Also I will be narrowing mine 4.5" per side to be able to reuse the rims I have now and run a 29x10, and then I'll run a 15x12 with 5" back space with a 30x11 tire.

I've been reading your thread on the tubbing Ragen. Let me know when you're done so I can get you to mini tub mine

I finished the tubbing stuff on mine I am just waiting on money to get the new rear end and I need a drive shaft, found a weird groove/twist in my old steel one.
Ever consider a partial mini tub? Just cut out the bump stops and put a small section in the front inner corner?
That would give you plenty of room.
Like I recommend to tell anyone, buy the rims and tires you want first, then set them in there, clearance everything, then measure for the right width rear end.
It's pointless to go through all the trouble if one side is 1/4" too close and it rubs every time some one rides with you or you take a corner hard.
I am in So. California, not sure where you are but I would be glad to help if I can. I love working on car stuff, best part I always work for beer and sandwiches when it comes to friends =)
