Exclamation Roll bars can save your life

Those of you that choose not to follow safety rules are only jeopardizing your own life. Safety items and rules are there to protect us, so please don't view them as a negative to racing.

Here is a good video of what can happen when drag racing, and it can happen quickly. The rollcage no doubt saved this guy's life.

Dang that would really suck. I was going to get a 6 point cage but decided to go with a 10 point just in case.

good point Tony. Makes me want to bitch-slap the morons that whine about having to put safety equipment in their ride. Rules are there for one reason: TO SAVE YOUR ***!

THANK YOU Tony.. I get so tired of trying to explain safety to people. I'm not trying to make money I'm trying to save your DUMB ***.

Safety first we can replace the car not your MELON.

I cant DL that for some reason. I just put a deposit on a custom C/M 8pt roll bar for my ride. I will be dropping it off at the chassis shop soon. My car will be legal next year! And safe.

I even bought a helmet!

Not that it matters that much to the central point about safety but I'm curious, is the guy sitting down with his head in his hands the driver or distraught friend? If not, was the driver injured?

Just wondering.

The website says it's temporarily down.

I completely agree, safety rules make it better for everyone! I personally don't have a death wish, and I'm sure the guy in the lane next to me appreciates that my car is much less likely to be a safety hazard for his good as well!

I agree. Spend the $$ on safety. I do not value my life as cheap and I will not value my saftey that way either.

As the old saying goes "got a $5 head, get a $5 helmet"

Here is a couple pics from the movie. I am more paranoid about about safety then most, the car that crashed here didnt look all the fast but stuff happens real quick when a car gets sideways half track - imagine if that was your car the guy slammed into and not the guardrail..

Default That was my car...

It was a small tire SBC 67 camaro. Nobody was hurt and I used to hate safety regulations... they are there for a reason. In that video the car crashed at about 100MPH and looks like a stone next to the 7 sec dragster. It was prob on a 10.10 or so for that pass and was supposed to be an 8.90 - 9.0 bottle car.

I replied to some questions here:

BTW: We had 4 cameras in the car to make that video as we were testing in car systems that day... what a day to video.

I wanted to see how bad this crash was, after having crashed a car of my own at over 160 MPH and walking away without a scratch, I know how important a cage is to a racers safety. Funny thing is that link to the video was always broken so I could never see the crash or what car.
Soon as I saw the pictures I knew way too much about the crash. This was a close friend of mine’s car. Him and his best friend were testing at Sacramento a few years ago when this happened. The driver during this crash was not the owner of the car. The car was equipped with a 10 point cage and the driver walked away without a scratch. Being a good friend of the owner of the car, and the driver being responsible for the car as it went down the track. The driver stepped up and replaced the car he crashed with another car. It sucked that it happened, it sucked for the driver and the owner to have to be in that situation but if you look at the end result, everyone walked away. The car was replaced but the driver could not have been replaced. The car was a low 9 second car so it was no slouch.

Figured it was low 10 second pass, I had the same thing happen to me at Byron dragway in a mid 9 second 68 camaro, They just repaved the track and after 100 feet the track turned to ice. Got completely sideways but its a wide track and was able to save it but still **** my pants - people in the stands said it was on two wheels for a bit.

That taught me not only safety equipment was imprtant, if I wasnt strapped in tight I would never had been able to hold onto the car when it whipped around, but also to let off the thing instead of trying to save it if it gets real loose past 150' out.

Glad no one got hurt, pretty wild that happened with all the cameras in the car.
