Default Lightweight alternative for stock fans?

I have been pondering for a couple weeks on this, and saw it mentioned in this forum recently. Anyone have any info on a SPAL big single or anything else?

I just have a single fan on here, wouldnt do it for a street car that sees hot weather/traffic though. Weighs less then half of the stock fan assembly and draws less current when at the track cooling it down without the car running. With the electric water pump/fan going on a 90 degree day it would cool down to 140 in 10-15 minutes between rounds no problem.

Thanks KP. No street car here. That looks easy enough. I know those fans are light. What size is that one?

I agree. I thought about mounting a push type to save some more room in the engine bay. I can't locate anyone that sells the SPAL fans. Where did you get yours?

Compared to a 14 or 16" single fan they they are, I dont have my stock fans anymore to weigh them, maybe someone else does, but a single fan has to be at least 4-5lbs lighter. Lot of plastic and 2 pretty big motors that are made to last 100,000 miles with the stockers.

Neither Jegs nor Summit carry them, just FYI. CV products has a fair price on them like Harlan listed.

Magnus- I'm running a single 10" on my SI car. With my "race" EWP, the car will not get over 170*.....I've let the car idle for 15 mins and it never started to climb. Pics in webshots page.

Keith, are you going to be using the stock radiator as well? I would say just use those push through plastic clips through the radiator, or you can make custom brackets. Although the push clips are lighter than any brackets. I will be switching to a smaller radiator with a single fan (mounted with push through clips) on our car sometime in the near future.

i just measured my new aluminum radiator and single 16" Perma-Cool fan and the assembly was 12lbs lighter.
my 16" Perma-Cool has a 2950cfm static rating, which was alot higher then the other ones i was looking at and only costed $100ish from summit.

Griffen sells Spal fans
