Anyone running 17" ET Streets?
You might have an interest in this thread. M&H is considering building a similar tire that would actually be an inch wider (true 10" footprint). They are looking for indication of interest to move forward with this project.

i have been running the 17 et streets on the 99 vette, but this past weekend they would not hook for crap. they have more than half of original depth left, but they never got sticky all weekend long. any one else ever had this happen? i am leaning towards that mt drag radial, just like the wrinkle flex affect to aid in a little less parts shock. joe in memphis

Well I will put it like this. I broke a 9" on the Mt street radials. If they get can come up with a tire that is comparable in stickyness, and price I would be in. Even if they make it a little bit wider and the life is at least the same. I would purchase a pair to do some testing to see which one I like better

As I said in the CF thread above, a 28" version with that footprint would be amazing. Hardly any tires for 17" rims in 28", and the only one I found isn't meant to handle power. I really wish M&H went through with the drag radial they had planned in that size.

I have run ET Streets in the past and like many I ran the stock radials up front on my 04 Vette. Why? Because I did not want to spend $2200 for a CCW drag pack and there in lies the tire problem. Most of us know and MT confirms, I asked them, that ET Streets (the slicks) with radials up front are not safe. If you drive a Corvette your choices are much more limited than if you run an F-Body.
I now run the MT ET Street Radials for this very reason. Their 275/40/17 will fit a ZO6 9.5 inch rim perfectly and you can safely run a stock radial up front. This provides me with a cost effective and safe racing solution. Now, I would like to see a 305 or a 315 in a 17" MT ET Street Radial or similar drag radial. BFGoodrich makes one in an 18" but I think the MT's work better.
I called CCW about their drag pack and they told me they don't really even like to make the drag pack rims because they don't make enough money on them. I will never understand why wheels for a Corvette need to cost so much more than the 15 inch rims everyone else races with.
In my opinion for drag racing a Corvette the wheels are the problem. Come up with a wheel and tire combination that can be sold at a reasonable price and you can sell a bunch of them.

Makes sense for him,but sucks for C5 owners wanting to put a good tire on the back.
I'm thinking some manufacture will come up with something but it won't be cheap.
IMO the radial on the front/bias ply on the rear issue is overblown.I know people have made thousands of passes with a mixed combo on their car without crashing.

Isn't there something you guys could do to get more drag-oriented brakes on the vettes that would allow you to use traditional 15" drag rims like Prostars and Bogarts and such?

I'm sure it would be big bucks.
