Default Front runner tire or radial tire for skinny

I've run the 165 R15 BF radials for the past several years.

I have no complaints what so ever with them.

I see those "front runner" tires offered by many of the tire manufacture's to compliment like an et street/ et drag or some type of slick tire.

Is there a weight different between a front runner and a radial tire (165 R15)?

I'm thinking yes... but I do not know.

My Weld drag lite 15 X 3.5's with BF goodrich 165 R15's weigh 26 lbs.

I'm trying to shave off every bit of weight and I'm looking into other area's.

Thanks!

If you can tell.... I'm very weight concious... current weight - 2,848 lbs w/o driver

Big weight difference, especially if you go w/ a ET Front. If you go w/ a Sportsman, then there isn't much difference.

regular 165R15 front radial is 18lbs. my et fronts weighed 11. that is 7lbs of rotating mass.

Question, would these be too big?
Mickey Thompson ET Fronts, 27 x 4.5 x 15
Or stick with these:
Mickey Thompson ET Fronts, 26 x 4.5 x 15

Thanks in advance!

I think I'll stick w/ the 26...... been researching and I might have clearance issues with the 27.

Updates to come

Huge weight difference from a radial or Sportsman versus the ET Fronts like someone said, but I also would not drive the ET Fronts around on the street much if any.

e.t. fronts on the street do not last long.. I know that for a fact. if ultra light is what you are after I think a moroso ds2 is about as light as you can get... when I'm done with street driving my car, that is what I plan on going to.

what's the deal with this moroso ds2? I've heard most people running, the MT ET front runners. Is this moroso lighter? What is it sacrafising over the MT? ANything?

thanks, I'm about to order my Et fronts and rear's in a day or so.

I run ET Fronts in the 26" variety on my car but like others said they don't last worth a crap on the street. THink I put like 1000 street miles on mine and they look like slicks in the front..

if I hit a puddle i would eat it big time...

ET Fronts and DS2's are the lightest, but they push on the street and won't last at all.

The MT ET Fronts are only rated for 3000# max. They are designed for track use, and they are not intended for street. The side walls are weak and will roll over on the rim with agressive turns. They are also very thin and will cut easily also.
Other than that they are a very light tire, but they are expensive. The Moroso DS-2's are basically the same and are cheaper than the ET Fronts by about $30 per tire.

What about GoodYears? Jegs lists them at 10lbs each whereas the ET fronts are 12. Is this information inacurate?
