how long should i do a burnout?

What size tire? With something like a 275 60 15 I would start around 22 and work down 2 psi at a time will you get the best 60ft, then from their go up or down 1 psi till you have the best 60ft. When I burn out I make sure I am out of the water box in the damp part of the burnout patch and I do the burn out until I see smoke for 2-3 seconds then let off the brake and gas and let it roll forward and stop before you cross the stage beam. Creep up when you stage until you just activate the light so you have the same rollout each time and tune the tire pressure and leave at the same rpm each time. Good luck

MT recommends 20psi to start and adjust from there. I run at 20 and no problems at all. As for a burnout, I roll through the water box and spin them till they hook. It only takes a few seconds and most of the time doesn't even produce any smoke. Only time they didn't hook was when I launched off the rev limiter and then they spun.

i also have that size and tire.
i burn them for a good 3-4 seconds and then keep into the gas (but letting off to about 1/2 throttle) but let off of the brake so the car goes forward. you'll feel them hook and jerk the car forward. at this point you are only at 1/2 throttle so when the car jerks you can quickly let off of the gas and stop before the staging lights. works for me every time.
on the street i do pretty much the same- maybe a shorter burnout but depends on the race/weather. in warmer weather they don't need much of a burnout unless you are trying to flash the converter (which i have done on the street with about 50% rate of hooking up, the other 50% of the time they spin- but they DEAD hook at the track).
good luck, i don't THINK you can overheat them but you are just wasting the tire after a certain point.
i run 16psi religiously- on the highway, driving wherever, racing etc... i think the tires wear better since my outsides seem to be wearing the same as the centers.

i have personally gone 1.47 60' and just started learning the tire. local guys run the b ig 325/50/15 and ar egoing 1.32 60' in a full weight TA (like mine).
we both run 22 psi and i have learned that very LITTLE burnout is needed ot hook. the bigger burnout and lower psi, the worse the traction.
its a common misunderstanding with these tires. they are weird. heat them up too much and they become greasy. barely any smoke is needed.

Rim width also matters for PSI, wide rims will run more psi than a narrower rim. Either way like I said start around 22 stage the same and dothe same burnout each time till you get it, every car is different, its just simple trial and error, log each pass, et/mph 60ft, psi, shock settings, stage depth.
