Pacesetter LT's-300

Screw stock looking. As long as there is somewhere for me to sit I'm game.

The failure here is on your part. You failed to very specifically spell out your goals.

Your original statement was simply, $1000 for parts, and how fast would it go? That infers you wanted to go as fast as possible for no more than $1000. Weight reduction is a very good way of going as fast as possible.

Then you say it's for "a little research for a story on a beginners build up with an LS1 car".

Then "Obviously, you guys don't have a wife and kids........."

Get your own story straight first, and make it plain and clear what you're trying to obtain, and the responses will be far more useful to you.

And a racing dedicated car could see upwards of 400lbs weight reduction, more if you get really serious about it. That's worth far more than a tenth of a second, upwards of half a second or more.

Of course, you never specified how far you wanted to go. You got answers to the question you asked, and they've all been good answers as well. They aren't the answers you wanted because you didn't specify what you wanted accurately enough.

And I fail to see what wife and kids have to do with drag racing. I'm quite positive there are plenty of guys here with wives and kids.

Port your throttlebody - Free
3600-4000 stall - $400
Tranny Cooler - $50-$60
Lid - $80-ish
Cutout - $40 + installation is probably 1 hour at anywhere from $40-$60 ($100-ish)
Tuning for added parts and convertor - varies ($200-ish?)
ASP Pulley - $150-ish shipped (I sold mine for $135 shipped last week).

Those are the real world prices. You have to take into consideration extra's like the tranny cooler and installation of the cutout. With et streets already on the car though, that's a low 12 sec car. Tuning with a convertor and added mods would be worth it to go ahead and do for me.. because most places will offer you 1 free year of updates, so when you get another thousand to throw headers and an ls6 intake in, you'll already be ready.

Peace,
Josh

Sorry, I am not used to anyone wanting to gut a car like this so I didn't expect it. I've never seen a "beginner" take a perfectly good LS1 car and start stripping it for weight, that's more for the advanced racer looking for every tenth.

The comment about wife and kids is because no seats and carpet make it pretty difficult to take the car out for ice cream.....

Well if you're looking for a COMFORTABLE car for a grand, I'd say do the following
Fuddle 4000 converter-$400 bucks
Ls6 Itake-$300 (used)
Lid and cutout-$100
Used 3.73 or 3.42 gears-$100

If you pull the carpet out, you can spray in some DIY bedliner from Autozone. Its like 15 bucks for 2 cans. Looks great and its scratch proof. Put the seats back in, looks stock with the floormats in. Saves about 50lbs and if the kids spill ice cream you can just bring out the hose!
