DOT tire comparable to a 28x10.5 ET drag?
I'm in the market for a 10" tread DOT tire....what does everyone here recommend? which one of these would be a worthy swap from a 28x10.50 slick?
28x12.50 ET street:
Dia: 28.1 tread width: 10.0 section width: 12.6
275/60-15 ET street radial:
Dia: 28.0 tread width: 8.9 section width: 11.1
28x11.50 Hoosier Quicktime Pro:
Dia: 28.0 tread width: 10.0 section width: 11.2
275/60-15 Hoosier Drag radial:
Dia: 28.0 tread width: 10.0 section width: 11.5
*For reference 28x10.50 ET drags are:
Dia: 28.0 tread width: 10.0 section width: 11.7
**I know the ET radials are only a 9" tire, but it's closest thing to a 10" tread tire that M/T offers without going up to a 30" tire (which is not an option)
28x12.50 ET street:
Dia: 28.1 tread width: 10.0 section width: 12.6
275/60-15 ET street radial:
Dia: 28.0 tread width: 8.9 section width: 11.1
28x11.50 Hoosier Quicktime Pro:
Dia: 28.0 tread width: 10.0 section width: 11.2
275/60-15 Hoosier Drag radial:

Here are some pics of a member's car on a Bogart D10 with the 325/50/15 ET Street Radial

Ran 9.78/1.355 60' with the QTPs and 9.79/1.360' with the ET drags at the same track in similar DAs.
Last 3 passes at different tracks on this vid are all on the QTPs. I ran the QTPs to the end of last year (didnt want to buy a new set of ET drags in september) and they still have 50% left on them after 35 passes. They work, I'm tellin ya lol.

hmm is there any specific tire compound you run? or just the generic 28x10 qtp?
i like the radials but i am going to a trans brake this year and think the qtp might be a better choice. what do you think?
and if the et drags are about the same, why not run qtp all the time?

The radials work, lots of guys running fast on them, they just wear quick. Couple tracks around here wont let you run drag radials on their 'real' race days. MTs or not..
I keep both the ET drags and QTPs mounted, I think the ET drags may work a little better on a crappy track (which most local tracks are here) but on a decent track they are about even. Why not have one set of each

KP what did you have to do to the transam wheel well, other then the BFH to the inner part wheel well to fit the QTP's in there? I was considering the same thing as the thread started, and if the QTP's are lasting longer then the et radial and are working as well as they are, I'm leaning more towards them at this point. I would like to go with a 28 inch wiehgt, I know the 27x11.5 qtp will fit with little to no issues, but am unsure if they are big enough to work on a car like mine ( heavy, near 500 rwhp when new motor's done)

I used to never run tubes but lately I do. Never having to put air in the tires between rounds is worth a lot more to me then 7lbs. Sometimes you get lucky and they dont leak but lately I havent been lucky so I just put the tubes in, of course if you use tubes you have to use screws.. If you have a max effort heads up car I could see not running the tubes if you need to get rid of the weight and it may make up for the hassle but for what I do I'll run them..
I also noticed the new QTPs I just got have 'not for highway use' on the sides which is kind of a bummer since I was using them as my street tires. The older ones didnt say that, they still have a DOT stamp but putting that on the side kinda sucks if you have cops like around here..
JL, just some hammer work on the front edge if the 1/4, tied back the rear plastic, cut part of the bump stop off and bashed in the front inner wheel on the bottom. All the same stuff you need to do with a 10.5x28 ET drag, these are a little shorter then the ET drags though, maybe 1/4" or something but they are very close in size overall.

If you could get a pic of what you did that would be great. I think iam gonna try to trim the inner part of the rear bumper cover back some at the bottom, try to make it the same width from top to bottom on the inner edge (if you understand what I'm saying) to eliminate that as an issue, the inner part I'l get a 2x4 and a 3 lb hammer and hit it out of the way. The bump stop I'll remove if nessassary, and the front I'm not sure what I'l od yet, I was going to take the inner edge and notch it out of the way at the bottom of the inner part, and seal itup so it won't rust, but I'm not sure yet. need to figure out what tire I'm gonna run and go from there first.
I was leaning towards the 27 x 11.5QTP or the 275/60 et radial so the fitment wouldnt' be too bad, but if the et radial is wearing out as fast as I am hearing, I may bail out on that one for now. I have ehard they wear out quick, but not as quick as you are saying.... but you've had them and I haven't How was the wear on them on the street? I will put about 1500 street miles, and about 20 passes a year on the car, I was hoping to find a set that would last for the season for both, and just replace them once a year. Think the QTP would work for that? Car never sees rain, etc.etc so that stuff isn't a concern... but the "not for highway use" on the side of the QTP, that is, I thought those had DOT approval, or did they lose it somehow? they aren't any worse then a ET street, and those are still approved
didn't want to go with the 28x11.5 et street, but may have no choice now if the qtp lost the approval, our local cruise area's cop partol will ride people about that I'm sure.
