Pro shifted T56 VS T400 for street/strip car
Just looking for opinions on a pro shifted T56 vs a T400 for a street strip car. I currently have a T400 and it sucks on the highway and I miss the 6 speed on the street. My car is more of a street car then a race car. One person says a pro shifted tranny isn't bad on the street and the next says it's not streetable at all. Thanks for any insight.

From what I understand the Pro Shifted 6spd's are a bit of a pain in the *** on the street. They are definately streetable, but they are kind of annoying. You have to shift it just right and they sometimes pop out of gear just while driving.. and they are noisy as well..
This is not first hand experience, but I have been told this by 3-4 people that have a pro shifted 5spd/6spd..

Why not a built 4l80e or built t56. Both are streetable and you get to choose auto or manual. If your car is more street oriented I'd go with the t56, it's a lot more fun to drive a manual on the streets than an auto. If your car was more track oriented I'd run the 4l80e.

How much power do you have. I thought the standard T56 was holding behind 700+ rwhp with the right clutch.
IMO, the 4L80E is the best bet for high horsepower. BS3 controls it, you can do a manual VB if you want, if you have electronic control you can do a paddle shifter I think now. Plus it will hold GOBS of HP stock w/ a shift kit (parish). If you build it up, the sky's the limit (TwinTurboCE).
Its expensive, but a good investment IMO.

On spray I'm looking to do between 700 and 800 rwhp. I'm not the best 6 speed driver at the track so I switched to a T400. Now I miss the 6 speed other then the half dozen times a year I goto the track. I may just run a number I have as a goal and then put in a beefy T56.

I think its all personal preference. I dont find a manual to be any "fun", at least not here in Hawaii dealing with fricken traffic all the time. I find more "fun" in slapping the RMVB TH350 around without having to clutch clutch clutch... Agree on the 4L80E, but Parish is actually making close the TwnTurboCE's power, or he was last time I heard from him, either way they handle the abuse.

Its perference for sure. Once you figure out how to drive it, the street driving isn't a problem. It only wears out things while its grinding, no other time.
Since i'm not a great manual driver either, I'm going to sell it before I blow the motor up!

pro shifted t56 (ask rodney or futral) lasts about 40-45 passes. then it comes out for a rebuild. its not the tranny, but the clutch (hydrualic) that is the weak spot of the t56 drag racing combo. pllus pro shifted sucks on the street. downshifting is a bitch...
as for th400. even a radical spragless rmvb th400 is EXTREMELY streetable and strong enough for 1000 hp.

Or a Glide.....
You can always go with a Gear vendor OD unit.

With 3.50 gears you should have no problem driving the car on the street.. Thats what I'm running in my car with a TH400 as well. Its basically the same as driving around in 4th gear with the T-56 or 3rd gear (Drive) with a 4L60E..

I occasionally drive my proshifted T56 on the street. once I figured out how/where to shift it its not too bad. with 4.10 gears and 28's out back I shift 1-2 at 20mph, 2-3 at 30 and 3-4 at 40 with no 'rev matching' required. its either that or WOT. no downshifting either, which can make it a pain. you can probably do a heel-toe rev matching downshift, but I'm not that talented when you come to a stop, you have to put it in 5th or 6th to stop the transmission rotation then put it in 1st.
its not too bad using syncromesh fluid is a big help also. I've got about 50 passes on it with ~550rwhp and about a dozen with 680rwhp on a 100shot. and there are no signs of wear at the track yet (knock on wood)
