Default Roll bar bend quality question

Have a question that other may be able to answer. We just got a chrome-moly 6 point roll bar and have some questions about some of the bends in the tubing. Don't know if you can see them clearly from the pictures. In some of the bends it has stretched the tubing and is flatten out some.

We have always thought that the bends should be smooth and not distorted. Even have a custom made roll bar in another car and the bends looks nothing like these do.

Has anyone else gotten a roll bar with bends that look like these?

I don't want to say where the roll bar came from at this time. Like to get more opinions from others about the bends in the tubing. Needless to say we're not impressed with it.

Those tubes look like they wer bent in an exhaust tubing bender. They will flatten out like that..Most people I have seen now use a mandrel bender that keeps the tube the same size through the bend. I am not sure that I would trust those bends...just my opinion.

Those definitely weren't bent in a manderl bender. Keep us informed on what the company has to say.

After you call them, you need to tell us who they are and what their reply was. Im about to order a 6pt bar, and def dont want to order from them, whoever they are.
We just installed a Jegster 4pt in a 70 1/2 Camaro, the bends on that cheapo look 10 times better than those pics are showing.
Keep us posted

Just got off the phone with the company. They said that this is normal for thin wall chromoly and that mild-steel bends don't look this way. Said there's nothing to worry about and its ok.

I have a chromoly 10 pt and none of the bends look that way. Why should it be different than a mild steel anyway?

Thin wall tubing will flatten out on one side when done with a shoe based bender. Most chassis shops don't mandrel bend anything (in fact some confuse mandrel bending with the benders that most shops use anyway).

In some of those tight radius bends like that they do flatten out when there is not enough sidewall there. The bending shoes typically list what minimum wall thickness you can bend on to maintain the full round profile through the radius. Just because the 1-5/8 fits in the shoe doesn't mean that it's not the right radius to accomodate that wall thickness. I've done that a couple times already, it'll even do it on really small diameter stuff too.

Those don't look right at all. I have a Wolfe 10 pt chromoly cage and it didn't look like that.
