Default Need a helmet... nice one for good price?

Hey guys, well i went racing last time and had to borrow the nasty helmet from the track .i definately want to get my own.. just not sure if there are any regulations a helmet must meet or something to be okay for drag racing? What helmets do you guys use and like? Just planning on going once a month or so but would like my own helmet? What should i get? Not looking to spend a fortune if not needed. Thanks!

Current SNELL/DOT rating and buy as much helmet as you can afford.
It IS your head.

tonker.com

Great customer service, great prices, and quick shipping.

I just run and open face helmet. I have an unusually large head, and Tonker was the only place I've been able to find size 3X helmets.

I got my helmet on Ebay. I cant remember offhand what brand it is, but it came with a helmet bag. I think its a moto helmet, but it looks and fits just fine to run 11's. If its good enough to protect a head against slamming into the pavement when you fall off a bike, its safe enough to ride in a car with.

Edit: Its a VEGA helmet.

you can get what ever helmet you want... and infact at local tracks around here they never check it...

but after you use a poorly built helmet write me back and tell me how much that extra 200$ means to you while you have staples in your head or your liner caught on fire and melted to you face.

everyone at my track thinks i look silly driving bracket car that runs 6.0x's in the 8th with a full fire suit on and shoes.... but they will feel even more silly when i walk away from a car fire with out a burn....

after you wreck and you get hurt its always- shoulda, coulda, woulda but, none of it matters after it happens...

not trying to tell you what to do but that 200 extra dollars seems like nothing when your paying for good health.

Find a local motorcycle shop. After walking away from the last 90mph crash on my bike, I feel pretty good about the same style helmet being sufficient in the car. BTW, even though I was hot rodding a bit, I would not have crashed if not for some ******* crackhead walking out in the road in front of me. It was a choice of sliding or hitting the jackass. But back on topic, what kind of budget are you really trying to shoot for? You can get a great helmet for under $200. What is your brain worth?

well fellas, i don't really think a $400 helmet is necessary for what i'm doing... Hell my car ran a 7.9 in the 8th last time. Its nothing quick or fast. I'm only going to be at the track once a month if that and just need a helmet to get me by. All i want to know is how this helmet is... http://www.helmetcity.com/page/HC/PR...ellm/cl15black
. Its under automotive, then helmets, then Snell M2000. Do it's specs meet the requirements for drag racing? I'm not hardcore here, just need something to use when i go to make a few passes every once n a while. I can tell you for sure that the helmet i just posted up is probably 100 times safer then the piece i rented out at the track so right now.... pretty much anything is safer then renting one... Just let me know if you thin kthat one is good enough so i can order it up. Thanks!

get the helmet you want

i told you what i thought and you didnt like it... if you dont want any opinions besides people telling you what you want to hear then dont ask.

a car crash and motorcycle crash are 2 differnt things... mainly motorcycle crashes involve alot of sliding.... car crashes are usually just solid blows to the head...

yeah, your right. Falling off a bike going 70mph+ involves no hard blows to the head.

yeah, your right. Falling off a bike going 70mph+ involves no hard blows to the head....except for that initial contact. Last time I checked, asphault is a hell of a lot harder than any plastic cheapo trim I could find in my Camaro interior.

say whatever you want... im not trying to bash motorcycle helmets but most of the time when cycles crash unless its another car/tree/object its mostly just getting laid down with horrible road rash and broken appendages... Thats why drag helmets have to have a higher snell rating.
