Default Roll cage question

Is it true that ALL roll cage plates where it attaches to the body, must be 6x6? Looking for an 8.50 certification

They must be at least 6x6 if attaching to the floor. For our main hoop and front bars we use 2- 3"x6" plates. We weld one to the floor and one to against the rocker and to the floor plate for a total of 6"x6". Our rear plates are 6"x6".

D bar plates to the tunnel should also be 6x6. Some (myself included) have had the cage cert with smaller plates, but you're better off just doing every plate so that it's total size is 6x6.

That's correct. I always cut the corners to a 45*. That way, you do not create a stress point with 2 welds ending at a point.
I also start/stop the weld at a point along the side of the plate, not at a corner.

I had Bill Buck install my Wolfe cage. Turned out very well. Here is a shot of the plates you are talking about.

Given I'm too old and decrepit to stand on my head to weld, etc:
1. I fit the bars, locate everything in the car, and then tack the plates to them. I then take out whatever I can, weld it on the bench, then reinstall, and finish the welding. In some applications, I can manuver the main hoop to the door, and get the top ft, and rear welds done, then the last thing I do, is weld the plates to the floor.
2. I ALWAYS clean, prep, and prime/paint the bars, before I install them for the last time. A touchup gun works very well to finish the areas around the welds...
3.I NEVER do a job, unless I have everything that's going into the car, including the driver, prior to bending the first pipe.
4. RTFB..... Read the F%^kin book!!! A $10.00 rulebook is a standard "tool", in my shop. Don't leave home without it..
