Default Transbrake - Proper use.....???

Since i didn't see too much mentioned about this. How about some guidelines for when launching on the brake. My biggest questions are these...

Which way is better(if you don't have a 2step)

1.)as the lights are coming down floor it and let it launch off the converter?

2.)half throttle it to the rpm you are wanting to launch at, and when you want to go, let go of the button and THEN floor it?

I'm trying to figure out what is the best way and what is the safest on parts. Granted the car hooking has alot to do with the rpm you are launching at, but is it ok/safe/parts-wise to be at half throttle and then nail it after you release the button?

guess i need to start looking for the harlan 2-step in the classifieds

2step is the only way to go with a transbrake. just stage, push the button (activating transbrake and 2step) and mat the throttle, let off the button at the flash.

Yea, no reason not to run a 2 step these days with a brake. My 60 foots are a whole bunch better off the brake/2 step then just off the brake WOT. Its hard to get a consistant launch holding it at a certain rpm then flooring it.

if you dont have the 2 step, you want to stay off the converter as long as possisble. I would stage the car, hit the t-brake, bring it to a fast idle, then as soon as the top light comes on, floor it, then let off the brake when its time to go. This way your only going to be on the converter a maximum of about 1 second. this will keep your trans temps consistant and keep them from getting too hot.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Also when you trip the 2nd stage light and hit the t brake button, keep your foot on the brake for a couple of seconds before letting up on it. This will keep your car from stepping foward into the beams and possible deep staging it when you take your foot off the brake. I always try and stage first so I have a couple extra seconds to stay on that brake before I let off on it.

thanks guys.

i have the transbrake wired up along with the linelock so the car won't move when the t-brake's installed. NXRICKY had posted a schematic in the nitrous section on how to do it.

This was a good question and hope you don't mind me adding to it. If you don't use a 2-step and you just floor it using the T-brake, will it not just rev up to your stall RPM and stop? Also, my T-brake is taking up to 2 seconds to disengage after I release the button, anyone know what could be causing this?

i have the same trans and converter as dan z28 and the trans brake sticks the same way, (with no 2 step) this was a damn good question as ive always wondered the same, sounds like its time to look into a 2 step especially since the t-brake is taking a few seconds to disengage its tagging the converter for to long.

If you floor with the transbrake engaged, your car will stall up the maximum possible stall of your converter.

your not using a delay box are you? do you guys know what kind of transbrake you are using? theres alot of things that could cause it to release slow. Full-tree (single dump) release slower that pro-tree brakes (double dump), it could be the selenoid sticking, problems in the button wiring, etc..

Chris, aren't you running a nitrous 9" converter? Why not bring it up all the way on the 'brake?

If you want to get practice, you could just bring it up to like 3000-4000 and then let go of the 'brake. But your current converter might only stall 4500 right now.

No delay box for me. Wiring goes straight off my Cheetah shifter to a relay, then to the Rossler T-brake. Think I should wire it direct and take out the relay? Not sure if it's not de-energizing or the solenoid is sticking or what. I have a Synergy 2-step I had when i was a M6 I was going to wire in, but thought the T-brake pretty much did the same thing unless you wanted to launch lower than your stall.

wire it straight from the button to the trans-brake and see if that works. 2-steps are used with trans-brakes to help give more consistant launches. if you want to sell the 2-step, pm me

where do you all generally run your buttons for the lauch(trans brake/ 2 step) and burnout(line lock/ seperate 2 step)? I know some people feel its not a good idea to run them on the steering wheel or shifter. i'm just lokking for your opinions. thanks in advance

I have the line lock and the trans brake on cords... I hold the 'brake in my left hand when I launch since a lot of friends said that having the button on the shifter was problematic.

Every best ET I have was by not using a 2step and launching off the brake at WOT.

9.9 heads/cam
10.2 cam only

many 1.2 60's as well.

TB on shifter; linelock on toggle switch (never needed it when using the TB); 2-step is controller by AEM . Launch at 3900 on 2-step. On TB only, turbos blow right through the 4200 stall.
