Can't get it to hook

Can't get it to hook
I have 315/35/17 Nitto 555Rs on 11" rims. I can not get theses tires to hook up. I've let the air all the way down to 16#s and still just melt them on takeoff at the dragstrip. I have an A4/Vig 3400,3:73 gears. I have also installed BMR adjustable torque arm and solid lower control arms. The rest of the suspension is stock. Any advise?

I never had any luck with Nittos anyways. I had 315/35/17 BFGs and they hook remarkably better. Now I have 275/50/15 ET Street Radials and there is no comparison. In my opinion, M/T is the best drag radial out there.

I've had pretty good success with the nittos. I'd used to average low 1.8's w/ a best of 1.74. I used to keep the tire pressure at 16psi hot and 14psi cold. Do you have your front sway car connected? If so, disconnect it. It will drastically help out weight transfer. What are your 60fts with the nittos now? -Mark

There is your issue: Nitto's. These worked okay until I added my cam. They work for some good street driving but not for track use. I highly recommend you get some Hoosier QTPs, they are DOT legal and hook up for me every time!

Here's my $.02.
A. Video the car on a launch, so you can look at the way the suspension reacts.
B. If the car still has the ft sway on it, try unhooking it.
C. Start with the tire mfgr recommended pressure.
D. Do a closeup vid of the rear tires, and look at the location of the wrinkles... That will tell you how the reaction to the suspension is going. [More on that, once you get the pics.]
E. Consider some adj shocks. It's the shocks that do the tuning... the springs just hold the body up.

But they're radials. They won't wrinkle...
How come everyone runs their nittos with so little pressure? I always thought that with lower pressure radials 'cup' and lose contact patch... I run my Mickey T DR's at 22lbs on the street and strip

I read to not go below 18psi on the Nitto 555R's as there are _no_ gains past that point when the tire has too little pressure. It won't wrinkle like a slick so don't try to make it.

I ran the Nitto's years ago. Best results were with 18 to 22 psi. But switched to BFG, and they were alot better. I since have the MT, and they are a world of difference.
One tip with the Vig 3400.. I ran that for quite some time, and the best 60's, and et's, were when I footbraked the car up to 1000-1100 RPMs, and launched the car from there. Start @ 900 RMP's and the up it by 100, to see which RPM will give you the best results.
Go with the MT, and you will NOT be disapointed. Good luck.
