Default y can some cars go 12s on regular tires

Stupid question but why is it possible that some cars can go 12s on a non drag radial or slick while others can't? I know i just spin the tires at the line but is it possible for a car to even go 12 on a non radial and why?

track prep being the most important...which translates into a decent 60'......

I went 12.69 @ 110.xmph on a 2.00 60' on the stock F1 rubber. That was with a lid and catback.

its all in the driver..knowing how to ease into the throttle and put as much power to the ground without loosing traction

It takes lots of practice. My ws6 ran 12.40s on regular radials and it was a 6 speed. I would rather run on regular tires anyday over drag radials or ET streets or slick because its more of a challenge.
Just keep practicing and you wil get it down there.

okay i got throttle happy and never eased into the throttle which i definitely should have. anyway i just bought a pair of M/T radials for my salad shooters. i hear those hook well so next time at the track i'll smash the throttle and see how true that is.

106mph or higher you can get into the 12's with a decent 60ft. Like above mentioned track prep does help. -Mark

I went 12.9 at 117 (2.4x 60') on bald Pepboys tires in the summer heat. Nothing to brag about, but with enough power you can make up time on the big end. Time for some new sticky tires!
