Really? I have your rack and am about to install it. It came with the two lock nuts for the tie rod ends missing, so that's the holdup while I find them.

Anyway, I did the very unscientific method of picking up your rack with one hand and then the stock PS rack (leaving the pump and reservoir still on the floor) and it seemed like 8 lbs is conservative. I felt like I was looking at about a 25-30 lbs total reduction. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to it!

This is on an LT1 car if that makes a difference.

Because a lot of us have streetcars.

I just wish it was made clear upon ordering that this rack can ONLY be run with skinnies.

I think that would've been nice to know.

Also, running 19" wheels would be a lot easier with the manual rack than the stock rack looped. That's for sure.

Brian,

I'm trying to call you right now. It doesn't list your ext. on the recording off the main line.

I'll look for another #

Wait, so we CAN run stock wheels with it?

Is there an updated part or something that I don't have?

are you not reading the thread or what.... it says you can use it but you cant make really sharp turns becaue when you lock the wheel all the way to the left or right it rubs.

I have been running the Madman rack with both 16x8 wheels and 17x9 wheels over the last two years. I have had no issues. You really have to turn the wheel hard to get it to rub.

Granted, I do live in the suburbs of Chicago so I do not have to make sharp turns.

In general how hard is it to turn the wheel with a wide low profile tire on there (I don't plan on running skinny's 24/7) with Madmans rack, especially at low speed?

Is there any alterations that can be prescribed to minimize the risk of rubbing on a near DD?

How much weight savings are we talking TOTAL (the savings with Madmans rack, plus what we can remove from the stock system)? I saw the 8 and 19 in madmans earlier post, is this additive or total at 19.

Great help guys, please keep the info coming.

It is not exactly easy to park a car with the Madman rack and 275/40-17 tires in the front. It is doable but you will be using two hands to park in a spot.

As far as weight savings, I never checked. I was more excited to remove the accessory bracket and relocate the alternator.

Yes, I DID read that.

However, what is the point of "Running" stock wheels with it if you can't turn the wheel all the way?

Basically you can't and this needs to be stated upon ordering for future reference.

I'll be damned if I scar some 19" I Forged Aeros because of normal driving.

race car parts on a street car is a sacrifice... no matter what it is... thats just part of it...

when you buy something you've never seen thats pretty costly and a race car part you are the one responsible to ask questions if it will work on a street car

sure madman may put this warning on there now because of a few people... but we shouldn't hold him responsible... if you really worried about it return it and pay a restock fee or sell it for 25$ less

True, but "Bolt In" doesn't exactly scream race part to me.

I had mine installed by the shop that sold it to me and they knew I was running stock wheels. They seemed just as suprised as me when it rubbed. Then admitted they had never installed one on a stock rim car.

Yup, I just think a disclaimer would be nice. It's a nice rack, but that limitation would make me reconsider that's for sure.
