Default Narrowed 9 inch

I'm currently running a moser 12 bolt.. Planning on switching to a 9" soon. Because of gear options and such.. BUT I want to get a narrowed 9". maybe 1.5" - 3" on each side. Will I need to make any other suspension changes or upgrades? as far as lca, shocks etc etc go.. not sure If I would need to relocate or something.

It you only go 1.5" or so, you don't need to make any changes. Moser doesn't charge anymore for a narrowed rear when they build it. Bob

I knew they didn't charge anymore.. which is nice. What is the max I can go without making any changes.. And what if I do mini tubs? any changed needed then?

I had mine cut either 2.5 or 2.75 (can't remember exactly) on each side and they DIDN'T have to move anything. It's crucial on your wheel backspacing.

you dont need to do anything other than offset LCAs if you want to narrow up to 3" on each side. getting the right wheel is crucial as stated above. i went 3" on each side and love it.

Gator, what are the specs on the wheel you are running?

Thats amazing that you don't have to move anything (except the LCAs) to narrow that much!

Go 3" per side and get some 5" backspacing wheels and it will look great. Mine worked without the offset control arms with 275/50 mt radials, but needed them to fit 325/50 radials.

15x10 5" bs weld alumastar. be sure to check on the exact BS measured (not as weld measures). sometimes they are off. like ls1 mongrel said, if you want to run 325/50 like we both do, you need to cutup the bumpstop area.

So let me get this right. All yall guys are doing is when you order your 12bolt from moser just have them shortin the axle 3inchs on both sides and then run a 15x10 rim with a 5inch BS and then you can run some monster 325/50's..??

cut and beat up the bump stop area of the inner fender area. some banging around but nothing major. no mini tub is required. takes a bit of patience getting everything lined up right with teh panhard bar and adj LCAs. i ran a .5" spacer to make things easy on me as my wheels are really 5.5" bs. they tucked in too far. 5" of true backspacing is perfect.

go take a look at ls1mongrel's sig or mine (i have a pix link in mine).

Exactly, but my wheels are 4.75 offset, and fit with minimal work, trim the bumpstops off and some minor fender massaging and your good to go, I still get a little rubbing when I turn, sharply, but nothing goin down the track or cruising ! Another thing that need some work is the emergency brake line bracket will need some fitment work, I got rid of my E brake so it didnt matter.

+1 on the ebrake. i didnt care to make a custom bracket. its really is not needed in an auto car.

we both have spools in the rear diff so that is most of hte reason why it would rub when turning. a posi or locker car wouldnt have that problem

Kyle, is that because of the extra 1/2" of BS?

Or are your prostars an advertised 5.5" BS but in reality they are 5" BS?

I'm inthe process of doing this, and am trying to measure everything up. Going from a 15x10 7.5" BS Pro Star to the new M/T wheels.

I wanna say the best offset is 4.5" to 5" with a 3" per side rear, if you dont wanna use spacers or do extensive work, I did very little hammering and just trimmed the bump mount off and was good to go !

again all this really matters when you run the 325 radials. if you want to run "just" a 28x10.5 slick or narrower 275 radial, it wont come into play. if you are happy with the smaller tire, then you can run 5.5, 5, or 4.75 bs wheels like the above cars and it wont matter. .

Im going to have moser make me a 12bolt. Does all the suspension peices still bolt up fine when the rear is shortened 3inchs on both sides.. With a 15x10 and 325/50 tires whats the best off set to run. Of course you gonna have to cut and hammer the bump stops etc out of the way. But whats the best offset to run with that setup?
