TH400 and a gear vendors?
Anyone drag racing a setup like this? I really like the idea of having 6 gears, especially an extra gear between 2nd and 3rd gear for the track. They are supposed to be good to 1300 hp as well. Any opinions or people using them?

Gear venders said it could help alot betwen those two gears since that is typically where the car drops off alot. It splits all the gears if you choose since it's a 6 speed. Why wouldn't you use it to split the 2nd and 3rd gears? I need to do more research .

dont take it as attitude. just wanted to give you an opinion. the GVOD is not popular b/c it eats up so much pwer it is literarlly another transmission that sits in line with your th400. it will help out on highway rpm and help slightly with fuel milage but will eat up another 10-12% of driveline loss.

Yeah it's a great concept but not if it's gonna rob power. Shoot, you might as well go with taller gears if you want more rpms for the highway, it'll slow you down just as good as the gear vendors but it'll be cheaper.
Gator- 10-12% of what? If you're making BIG power would that % go down?
He's talking twin turbo, would his driveline loss % be lower if he's making 1000 rwhp as compared to myself making 466 rwhp?

the GV with adapter weighs about 40 lbs and depending on the vehicle, to install it you have to cut out a big chunk of the trans tunnel. they do keep the rpm's in the sweet spot though.

I wouldn't put it in there. I have a th400, a converter that flashes to 6000 and 4.10's and I still drive my car around on the street. I'm not driving it across the country or anything like that, but it's still drivable.
I will be tightening the converter up this year though when the bottle goes on, I think it's gonna need that to run right, and that will probably make it run even better on the street, possibly a swap to 3.73 gears too if I'm running out at the track, but only if it's running out at the track... I spin my motor to 7500 so with the converter tighter I don't think it will be a problem.

I believe that a lot of racers don't run them because they are prohibited in a lot of classes and they are fairly expensive @ $2500.
Regardless, it is an awesome piece and it works well splitting automatically when you have the speedo signal wired into it. I should have some numbers with my big front mount setup in the next few months with this unit.
I made 680ish to the wheels on the old twins with a pig rich tune on 14-16psi (was a couple of years ago and I had to get off the dyno for another car that had an appointment). Using the math supplied here that would mean that I was making ~900hp at the flywheel. Probably not, since I the heads on the combo are underperforming and it had a small cam in it at the time.
Anyone have before and after dynos who actually HAS one?
