Default Installed an Odyssey PC680 today

The main reason I got the lightweight battery, aside from weight savings, was because my stock battery hold down broke, and they didn't let me pass tech the last time I went to Maple Grove because of it. So, Today I made a secure mount and installed it, this thing will not move at all...

I don't see this one failing the tech. inspection...

nice work, I might be copying your design this summer. Does having the battery mounted sideways affect performance of the longevity of the battery?

Everything that I have read says it doesn't effect it at all...

BTW, be carefull you that you don't leave your bottle heater on with the car off and this battery though...

I have the same battery when I go to the track. If its your DD be sure to carry some jumper cables. The reserve on it is only 24 mins. So it drains pretty quick. -Mark

I made a mount that's similar, but it's just a single strap without the ones you have wrapping it. I have a single big screw hlding it to the rad. support as well, and mine passed tech. It's a one inch wide strap, and I ground the end of the battery a little so it sits in between the ribs on the battery itself.

Yours is alot more sturdy looking then what I did, I don't see youhaveing any problems with that.

I keep a battery tender on mine too when it's in the garage, and I don't have any problems with the car starting, and when it's warmed up and gets parked at car shows etc it's been fine as well.

I won't hook my bottle heater to it though, when I go to the track this summer with the kit on I'm gonna hook the bottle heater up to a jump pack while I'm in the lanes.... I know there's no way that little battery will last if I'm trying to run a heater off it.

Looks good man. I don't think that battery is going anywhere.

Yeah it's in there pretty tight...

But I wanted to be sure of that since I was soo pissed to get all the way to the track just to have them turn me away for something that stupid...

I hear you, I have a strap set up similar to JLs but my battery was wiggling just alittle in the tray. Techs didn't like that and gave me a warning, so the next week I stuck some double sided tape under the battery and they were happy as ****.

Nice setup, any idea what the weight savings is? I figured it would be ~20-25 lbs.

If you want to make sure it will pass tech you need to use 3/8 bolts. It all depends whether they would coonsider that a "stock type" mount. That's for IHRA anyways. It looks damn good though. I was thinking of going that route also.

Thanks guy's, I did this a while back, and if I recall the mounting bolts are at least 3/8, well the 2 in the front ar the rear is the stock mounting bolt since this still sits on top of the stock mount...

black_z - at least 20# weight reduction, but would need to weigh it again to be sure, it was a few months ago when I weighed them...

*** EDIT ***

I just looked it up what I used, and they are metric 10 X 25mm and that equates to roughly 3/8 X 1" bolts. So I'd say they were legal, and I have never had a tech inspector give it a second look...

PC680 weighs 13lbs. So it will depend on how much the battery you're replacing weighs. If the stock battery is 33lbs. then the weight savings would be right at 20lbs.

Anyone up north using these in the cold ?
I'm not sure these will crank over a 11.2:1 motor in -30*

We daily drove that same battery for 2 years and never had an issue and never even came close to it not starting.

I swapped to the battery in this link once we added the 408 stroker with 11.6:1 CR and it hits like a full size battery. We bracket race to so there is a lot of stopping/starting with just a few minutes between the starts/stops. This one is a bit pricey, but it's a keeper. The Odyessy is great for a HC car though.

I love the mount. My mount was no where near what you have, but I never had a serious tech inspection either. You did good!

I doubt it will work for that cold of weather.... I know mine cranked my 13.5 to 1 402 over when it was about 15 outside.... but it barely did, and I keep a tender on it all the time.

I wouldn't think so, I used mine as a daily driver for a month or so when the weather around here was in the teens and had no problems, but I would think if you were trying to start the car in -30 it wasn't for racing and I would put a reliable stock size battery in there for that...

LOL yeah we don't see - anything here. I bought and ran it in 30-40* weather for several months 2 years back to back, but I do agree that -30s is probably gonna be trouble.

I do love Texas!!
