Small update...

Rear end housing showed up couple days ago. Its a Fab 9" from Burkhart Chassis, powder coated black. We still have to get the 3rd member, gear and axles, but the housing looks pretty cool. It came prepped for wheelie bars. Hopefully, we don't need them, but you never know.

Thanks...Burkhart Chassis is awsome. Dave's Customer service was top notch and the fab 9 came exactly like promised. A little over three weeks to get it. I highly reccomend them.

The 12 point cage is finished and is painted. I will post up some pics tomorrow....stay tuned.

Damn nice work. Really like the extra thought given to the front bars/towers. That's pimp. If everything else is thought out as well as it appears so far, it's going to be tittylicious-

Keep the progress pics coming!

You werent bullshitting...... thats awesome. I cant imagine what thats going to be like when its done. You are progressing pretty quickly considering the extent you are modifying the car. Thats awesome. Sorry it took so long, things are rough and I have very little time.

ok I have a dumb question. Why does everybody cut out the 6 point to put in a better cage? Why cant you just add onto what is there? ok go ahead and call me a dumbass.

Good question....In my case the dumbass who I paid to weld in my Wolfe 6pt Chrome molly cage did not TIG weld it. Since the 6 pt never had to be certified it was not a big deal. It was plently to keep the guy at the track of my back and I could have run well into the tens without anyone at the track saying a thing. I also wanted the Swingouts gone, it would have been just as big of a pain in the butt to add onto the old 6 pt. I just assume put an entire new one in that will have no problems being certified.

Now that 8.50's are the goal I want the car to be as safe as I can, plus I want to be LEGAL.

Just an FYI on that rearend.

I have the same one but Billingsley. If the car is low to the ground you are going to have to add relocation brackets. The 3rd hole is not near enough. I have to go 1 1/2in lower then the lowest hole. I custom made a set of relocation brackets.

Other that the reason DSG pointed out is a 6 point requires by NHRA/SFI to be 1 3/4 tubing. To do a full cage it only has to be 1 5/8 tubing, which is smaller and lighter..Not that anyone would want to haul around a few extra pounds..

Ok thanks, for the amount of tubing in a 6point how much weight difference is there? maybe 2-3lbs? .125 thick tubing x 25'? I know weight is weight but at what point is it not cost effective to remove it?

I am not saying anything bad about you guys for doing it as there was a issue with the welding, but for a street car like mine I just dont see a reason even if I was to go up to a 10pt. I dont think I will ever need to as I will probably only dream of anything faster then mid 9's with this car. Thanks again.

If you don't care about the weight than thats fine. Everyone is different..But I know 99% of my customers want the lightest strongest stuff made. Sorry to kinda hijack the thread..lol
