you are in an auto, no gears, and if you are roll racing he is going to win. the t-tops being out are a minor issue if at all. easy way to solve that problem for you is put them back in and roll up the windows then run again. If you have a honda that does 11.78 why are you racing the fbody?

I have a degree in aeronautics and that is a big YES on more drag with the tops off. The amount of drag goes up with the square of the velocity so at 80 mph you have 4 times more drag than at 40 mph.

I would definately say yes it makes a diffrence.

The Mythbusters had a show on talking about wind resistance and drag. It was windows down vs. Air Conditioner and which is better more effecent. Obviously this is talking about a diffrent situation. But, it was stated that from 0-50mph your car is more effecent with the windows down. After 50+ you should have the airconditioner on. Because the resistance of windows down is more than the work your air conditioner puts on the engine. So... this is a totally diffrent situation. Apples and oranges really, but I would assume the same science that goes into that situation is the same we are discussing on this thread. Wind resistance is a huge factor.

I remember reading or watching a show on the Viper. They were trying to see the top speed. They simply took off the rear view mirrors and the car was able to go a few MPH faster. It was up in the 200+ if I remember correctly.

But bottom line is wind resistance is a huge factor at high speeds. But again so is weight reduction to be quite honest.

thats what every one asks me the honda is a track car not realy streetable
and i already know what it does i think with the right stuff my camaro can be just as fast or maybe faster because my honda is pretty much stuck in the high 11's its hard to make hondas faster than 13's but from what i heard camaro's can get in the 10's fairly easy...........

It just occured to me when you mentioned weight that there may be another effect here. The top is curved and as such would tend to give the car some lift. This is the same effect as taking off weight. With the top off there would be less lift and thus more weight. Therefore you are hit by the increase in drag and an increase in effective weight.

Try doing 130+ with the t tops off and then you won't have to ask that question, not to mention that it makes the car unstable as hell...I know.

Ive heard having the ttops off is like adding 300lbs to your car in a quarter mile run. but you really dont look that big in that pic
